It breaks my heart to see kids worry about things like that. Obviously, even if you want your children to be involved in church, there are things that you shouldn't confront them with at a young age.
My cousin's parents didn't go to church, but she went pretty often with a friend and her family. Over the years, she was been scared to death for the "rapture" to happen, because she was afraid that she was going to be seperated from her family. She was also afraid that every noise she heard at night was the anti-christ coming. And when she was in middle school, she simply refused to take this little angel pendant off, even in the shower, because she was so afraid that she was going to become demon possessed.
I can't understand it. Childhood is supposed to be a time of freedom, without the worries and hardships of adulthood. Why darken their lives with the fear of these things? Its pretty horrible, in my opinion.

That's how I was raised. And it worked. I was hooked and it was hard to break free. I even thought, as a child, that if a bad person were ever to attack me that if I held my bible high, it would turn into the "Sword of the Spirit" and protect me. I honestly believed that I wouldn't have done something rational, like run away, if said attacker was about to get me.
It is known that most people will believe what they believe when they are 12 for the rest of their lives. It's a sad sad sad sad racket.

I think that Jesse was afraid that Leslie would go to hell because his family was religious, but Leslie's family wasn't. One Sunday in the story, Jesse's family invites Leslie to come to church with them. Leslie says something after church when Maybelle, the little sister, asks Jesse if God would send Leslie to hell because she didn't worship him. she says, "it's not beautiful! it's scary." Leslie says something along the lines of that she doesn't think god would go around damning people to hell because they didn't believe, and that " isn't it funny? you have to believe it, and you hate it. I don't have to believe it, and I think it's beautiful."
that is why jess was afraid god would send leslie to hell when she died, because she wasn't religious. if this story was a true story, i am sure that if there is a god, he wouldn't send leslie to hell. leslie is a wonderful character.
i don't have a problem with the dark aspects of bridge to terabithia. i am 12 myself and i think it is okay for young people to explore different subjects such as religion and not be closed minded about god and hell and stuff. the book/movie is a great story.

I was five when I finally had had it with Christianity because a pastor told me that my baby sister had to be cleansed of original sin. When I read the book in grade-school, I was horrified at what they had done to that kid but wondered how he could believe it.

Yes instead we should just teach them about gay sex and give them condoms. Those ten commandments and talk about the place of punishment for the disobedient is just too much. Well I would rather have them scared of hell than not scared of sexual perversity, rap music, gangsterism, impiety which are all against Gods will.I think anyone who teaches a kid about things contrary to God's will and practices them with impunity should go to hell so I have no problem teaching it or believing it. They shouldn't be scared of things like hell poor little babies but they should be scared of terms like natural family because that is intolerant? yeah right.

'Angel of Fire/Story Junkie/Adyghe1985 up there frequently removes both questions and answers - what does that say to you? That she's fiercely proud, as her profile claims? ( I was going to post her answer from a short while ago where she compared atheists to animals, but she's done it yet again. She's a real nutcase.)
Anyhow, it's my opinion that no child should ever be exposed to pure, unadulterated filth like that.

If you saw the same movie I did, you heard the boy's father tell him that God doesn't damn children. I read the book long ago (by the way- it's by a Christian author-) and I remember the father in the book saying almost the same thing, and assuring his son that God takes all children into heaven.

Zero: Since God is in the saving business and LOVES the WORLD (see: Book of John, chapter 3, verse 16), why would He [God] be roasting people, who He loves, on a wiener stick, for ever, in a "hell fire, for ??? There are a lot of dysfunctional Christians, with some very bad theology out there. "Zero" - be patient with them because God isn't finished with them YET ! ( God is patient with you !)
