Once, at school a bully thought i was flirting with his girl, so he challenged me to a fight. I was very against this, but decided i would have to fight him to avoid further trouble (him bringing his friends to gang up on me). That weekend, i was meditating for about an hour a day. When the fight came, all his movements seemed to be a in slow motion. I easily blocked and evaded all his strikes, and won without hitting him once. Anyone else have an experience like this?

It sounds like a fairly standard experience for the internal martial arts.

If you practice an external martial art and have also incorporated meditation into your discipline then I would say that you have successfully experienced the "BEING ONE WITH YOUR OPPONENT" that so many teachers talk about.

It usually goes over the head of most students who just study the mechanics of the martial art.

Now you know why some of us say that meditation is an essential element in the martial arts!

People either get it or they think that you're full of crap, so don't waste your time attempting to persuade the people who don't get it.

Talk to your instructor and see if he/she will give you some "extra work" that is not included in the normal classes. If your instructor doesn't "get it" I would say that it is time to start looking for a new teacher (while continuing your instruction) who can take you to the next level.

It is amazing how a teacher always manages to appear when the student is ready... In my internal studies I've even had a teacher pop up from as far away as India by sending me an e-mail from out of the blue!

Nice try. You're full of crap. You want all people to come in and admire you. In reality you're a very sad and pathetic person who probably got bullied everyday on regular base.

What actually happen was you probably almost got in fight but it didn't happen because you chickened out. So you go home and fantsanized how you would have defeated him to make yourself feel better. So now you post this just to further try fool yourself into think this is real.

How do I know you're making this up? In pretty much every fights if someone throw punches more than a couple time, you WILL get hit at least a couple time. If it's possible to not get hit at all, then boxers and othe rmartial artists would be fighting for hours in hope to land a single punch. If what you say was true then the bully probably wear a bottom of beer bottles as a glasses or is in a wheel chair.

Strange, but totally believable. Meditating can do that. I have'ne had that exact experience since I have managed not to get in any fights since starting MA. Of course the fact that I was 44 when I started might be a factor in avoiding fights.

I have never experienced the situation myself. (And I've been in Martial arts for over 10 years) But my sensei taught me once that when you have the fight or flight syndrome (adrenaline) kick in, your heart will start to beat faster, your body sweats a little more, your breathing speeds up a little, you will form tunnel vision, AND time seems to slow down. If this is how you felt, then it was just your normal adrenaline rush. He also said that every martial artist should practice controlling their adrenaline.

I know what you're talking about. When you have practiced against people who have skills, on the street, sometimes people seem shockingly slow. SOMETIMES! Don't let your guard down next time.

Even in class practicing against higher ranking students and then fighting my own rank made a huge difference. My peers were moving very slowly.

There is much to be said for focus. I don't know you or how honest your story is. there seems to be a lot of skeptical people on this question.
But when I train and really hit my focus zone people seem to be slower. It is perception. Because your mind is clear of extraneous thought it can react quicker.

I don't know how you won without hitting him, but know what your talking about, footwork and balance is the cornerstone of a good boxer.

dood, i had the same thing happen to me... i was drunk and i wandered onto the freeway at night... this was a busy 5 lane freeway... i wanted to get to the other side (so 10 lanes total)... it was all a blur but i evaded every single car coming at me 80mph.. it was like i was flying and nothing could hit me... i easily defeated the freeway level, just like frogger... i am good. we are very special, we should get together. maybe we are like the people in 'heroes'.
