Actually that greatly depends on the sect you are speaking about. Some sects have stories that state Krishna's wife to be Rukmini, others say her name is Radha. There are so many different stories. In most cases Radha is often associated with Krishna because there are so many, many, many stories about Krishna and Radha and Radha's love and devotion to Krishna and Krishna's affection and love for Radha. The same is not often said of Rukmini (not as many stories about such things). Thus since Radha-Krishna relationship best exemplifies bhakti-yoga, it only makes sense to use them as the example for all the devotees of Krishna. The devotees should be like Radha in their love and devotion of Krishna. This is most likely the reason why Radha is more often associated with Sri Krishna than Rukmini.

Hindus proudly believe that Lord Krishna had 1600 wives. Hinduism is not a religion. It is a culture, tradition, custom and way of Hindus' lives. A Hindu is born to Hindus in Hindustan (India) and practises Hinduism. None can convert to Hinduism. A Hindu can embrace any religion yet remain a Hindu by nativity.

Krishna is believed to have more than 100000 wives. But Rukhmani was the queen.

Coming back to your question. We worship Radha-Kishan for their love, commitment and sacrifice. They loved each other like body and soul. They were committed to each other but not at the cost of their family values. When the time demanded for sacrifice, Radha got married to some one else(I can't remember the name) to save her family morale. Same was the case with Kishan.

Radha is the soul of Krishn.

Like we are two in one, ie a body and a soul.

If Krishn is the body, Radha is the soul.

Krishn is spread all over the universe and Radha lives in His body as soul.

Radha is the soul of Krishn as Krishn is the soul of Radha.

It is as difficult to explain as it is to comprehend.

May be some saint can tell us more of that, but it can never be complete!

Krishna was the supreme God (Brahmm, paramsiva) who incarnated in a divine body to show us the true path

Radha was embodiment of Shakti....the other half of God (Ardhanariswara)

His wives Rukamini, Satyabhama etc were incarntions of great rishis...but none of them were pure form of shakti as Radha

Hence Radha-Krishna togather make the perfect God

I would agree that it is a genuine religion, stricter than Buddhism, but quite principled and egalitarian. It has a passionate, dedicated following and its tenets are honest and understandable.

The material knowledge begins with atheism and moves towards skepticism and then antagonism culminating in the improper understanding of ultimate truth or absolute truth (which some call as God) as impersonal or void. The bible, quran, torah and the teachings of Buddha of Buddhism and Mahavir of Jainism all deal with this material knowledge, which says, there is no God or everything is nothing, or if God is there it (he) is impersonal which is another way of saying no God and so on.

In these scriptures, compared to a pocket dictionary, there is only a hint about the nature of God.In the Vedic scriptures, compared to an encyclopedia, there is much more information about the name of God, form of God, qualities of God, activities of God. Vedic scriptures are go beyond the imperfect material knowledge and give the spiritual knowledge.

Therein one understands that, GOD IS A PERSON and thus has all the personal qualities what we have. WE HAVE A FORM because GOD HAS A FORM. It is not that God has a form because we have a form. The bible also confirms that man is made in the image of God not that God is made in the image of man. Our present material body is temporary and destroyed, whereas we as spirit souls are eternal and the spiritual form is never destroyed. Only the body which is like the covering of the eternal soul is destroyed. With the material vision we cannot see the soul since we are accustomed to seeing only material objects made up of matter. So with material eyes, we cannot see God. But God has got form. That's a fact. Now we are unable to see. We have a spiritual form and God also has a form with two hands, eyes, legs, hands, and everything. But the ingredients are not material but spiritual.

The Vedanta-sutra says, Janmady asya yatah, which means everything is born of the Absolute Truth. Since the Absolute Truth has got form and female aspect, we have form and female companion. Noone can possess, a form or wife or anything that is not present and coming from the Supreme Absolute Truth. Again, the Vedanta-sutra 1.1.12 says, that the nature of the Absolute Truth is anandamayo 'bhyasat, which means, the Absolute Personality of Godhead, Krishna, wants to enjoy ananda (happiness) with his pleasure potency. His pleasure potency is not material since Krishna being completely spiritual doesn't enjoy the material energy but enjoys the internal energy. The Vedas say, Parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate, that Krishna has got many energies multi-energies, and by utilizing, manipulating that energy, He is manifesting Himself in so many ways.

Therefore, impersonal concept of God is imperfect conception of God. As per the statement of Brahma in Brahma Samhita, the Suprem controller, Krishna, God, is sac-cid-ananda-vigraha (eternal, knowledge and blissful form) and is the cause of all causes both material and spiritual. The material world is understood as the Mother Nature (feminine) or energy of God the Father.

Below is some excerpts from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, who is the spiritual master (guru) of A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, (International Society for Krishna Consciousness)
Similarly, in the gradual development of spiritual, transcendental knowledge which is above the material knowledge, one understands and worships in the increased order the shakti and shaktiman, energy and energetic the conception of Supreme in the form of male and female as,
1. Laksmi-Narayana,
2. Sita-Rama,
3. Rukmini-Dvarakadisa,
4. Radha Krishna.
But for a person in the material platform the conception of Radha Govinda appear to be obscene, while the pastimes of Rukmini-Dvarakadisa appear a little better. Moreover, they consider the idea of Ramacandra, who vowed to accept only one wife, as more ethical than the behavior of Dvarakadisa Krsna, who accepted many wives. They consider Laksmi-Narayana to be more pure than Ramacandra. Moreover, they imagine that the conception of Vasudeva without His saktis to be more ethical than the conception of the Supreme in the form of male and female.

Thus Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura shows that RadhaKrishna worship is the topmost.

Now, let us analyse some things for clear understanding.
Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Krishna is the energetic and Radha is the eternal pleasure potency of Krishna and they are present in the eternal spiritual planet Goloka Vrindavana along with their associates.

Krishna's pastimes are twofold, manifest and unmanifest.
Unmanifest to our mundane material vision is the eternal pastimes in the spiritual world and the Lord with various associates comes to the material and performs the various pastimes which are performed in the spiritual world and then it becomes manifest to us in the material world. Those living entities who are attracted by these pastimes go back to the eternal spiritual world.

Krishna the Supreme Personality of Godhead, manifests Himself according to the way one wants to worshp in a particular relationship as Krishna Himself said in Bhagavad-gita ( 4.14)"All of them, as they surrender unto Me, I reward accordingly." The four acharyas, viz., Ramanujacharya, Madhvacharya, Vishnuswami and Nimbarka worshiped Krishna in various aspects.

Ramanujacharya, worshiped Krishna in His Vaikuntha aspect of Lakshim Narayana and adored them in all opulence and majesty as the Summum Bonum, the ultimate Absolute Truth. Similarly Madhvacharya worshiped Krishna as the Suprem Personality of Godhead above all other. And the other acharyas like Vishnuswami and Nimbarka worshiped Radha-Krishna as the ultimate.

While Krishna performed his unmanifest eternal pastimes in Vrindavana manifesting to our vision, Radha Krishna are thought to have unwed relationship. Though generally it is understood from various scriptures that Radha and Krishna were just unwed, there is one particualr scripture which states that Radha and Krishna were indeed married, Garga Samhita, chapter sixteen, entiteled, "Sri Radhika-vivaha-varnana- Description of Sri Radhika's Wedding".

Among worshipers of Radha and Krishna they are two divisions, one worshiping them as wedded couple and other worshiping them as unwed.

Worship of the Lord's energy and the Lord, gradually progresses from awe, opulence and majestty to sweetness and intimacy.
1. Laksmi-Narayana,
2. Sita-Rama,
3. Rukmini-Dvarakadisa,
4. Radha Krishna.

Worship of Lakshmi Narayana is mostly awe and veneration, and increaseas to sweetness and intimate to Sita-Rama and then to Rukmini-Dvarakadisa finally culminating in
Radha-Krishna worship.
