this is going to end up sounding like a credit card commercial
cat- to $925 .00 for purebreed
neutering--(if you go to humane society and get a cat there, you can find one already neutered or they will give you a certificate for vet to neuter for $25.00 to $35.00).
shots and immunizations-about $60 to $80.
food- $5.oo for bag of dry or 24 cans of moist
bed-$15.00
toys-$7.50 for a good assotrtment
litter pan$7.50
litter-(scoopable) $10 (non scoop) $3.50
carrier to take your cat to and from the vet-get the sturdiest hard plastic you can get.NOT cardborad which is chewable
$30.00
the love, affection, laughs and companionship that a cat/kitten can give to you-priceless

Alot, but after half that is done the cost isslashed.
Dont go for cheap food cause that can cause bladder infections easy and digestive problems that will get you more vet bills.
Toys, get the cheap dollar toys, better yet a box works wonders, lol
Bedding well, wait on that caue they may never use a bed you buy them. they may prefer you clean clothes.
Flea conrol get the brand from your vet Front Line or Advantage last a month. The store brands last a week and reappliing the flea stuff is not good for a cat. Hartz is a dangerous brand. Flea collars are worse, they may get it caught in there mouth and get poison'd
Litter box with top(unles s you like cat litter in floor) Clumping cat litter. Tidy cats sucks, wel i think. I like armour hamor brand, get a no tipping food and water bowl.

other items such as, more toilet paper cause kitty went crazy bandaids for the accidental scratches. Get scratching post, the ones they can climb and hide in or a regular floor.

depends on where you are. Petco does shots and the bill is cheaper then a vet. spaying is about 100-200, food depends on what level of food (many reasons cats get sick is due to the poor quality of food out there. I would check the natural kind where the first ingredient is meat and not pieces of it or something else). Toys/beds depend also on what you get.

If you adopt a cat from a shelter (I got a 4 month old kiten that is super friendly at a no kill shelter. She was spayed, had all her shots and the donation was only 50 dollars)

neutering is about $200-$300 but you can get discounts through your local animal control or humane society. i paid $10 to get my cat spayed at a local vet because of the discounts my city offers. shots run about the same ($200-$300) for the first time since they will need them all plus tests for worms/parasites. about $20.00 for cat bed and a few toys. food is about $3.00 a bag for kitten chow and you'll go through a bag every few weeks. i suggest getting a scratcher pad ($5-$20.00) as well and try and teach them young not to scratch furniture (good luck with this). also buy a water bottle to spray the behind of a cat when he gets into things, (like on the table) cats hate water and i found its the best way to reinforce positive behavior. food bowls= $6.00 or less. litter, litter scoop, litter box ( i suggest a good one with a lid)= $20-$30. congratulations on your new pet!!

The initial cost varies, as the contributers above have shown. However, please keep in mind the ongoing costs. In addition to the weekly food, litter, and misc. treat bills, you have to figure in veterinary visits. At first, it's usually just once a year, but as your pet gets older, the visits often increase. Getting a cat is a long-term commitment. The average cat can live about 15 years or more.

If you are asking these questions, that is good, because it shows that you do have some conscience. but, if you are not willing to take care of this animal for the next 10-17 years, that is generally how long cats live, then having a pet right now is not for you.

Neutering and shots - depends which vet you go to. Ask your local vet what they charge.

Food (grocery store brands)$10 to get you started, allow about $25 to $50 per month, depending if eats mostly dry or mostly canned food, and which brand. (My cat eats Fancy Feast, Friskies, and Purina.) Higher end brands (like IAMS) are usually found at pet stores.
Pet dish - you can use disposable bowls, or buy a plastic or ceramic bowl for $1 to $20. Don't forget to put out a water bowl, or you can get a pet fountain. Be careful of toilet chemicals, your cat may sometimes decide to drink out of the toilet when the water bowl runs low.
Cat bed, about $15 for a basic bed. (My cat prefers MY bed.)
Cat carrier, $35 (for the required vet trips for neutering and shots, and annual visits or if you ever plan to travel with your cat)
Toys - as much or little as you want. A string or ball of yarn can be a cat toy, or even a small ball, and my cat even plays with stray pens or markers on occasion. Catnip is about $4, or little catnip mice $2 to $5. (My 10 year old cat is currently chasing a catnip ball.) Check out your local pet store for even more options, like feather toys, laser pointers, and so on.
Litter box - This is a MUST unless your cat is outdoors most of the time (ie barn cat). $5 to 10 for a basic box. You can also get more spendy with features like a litterbox hood that covers the box, self cleaning boxes, and so on. Or, you can also buy litter pan liners, that make cleaning the litter box easier, but they are optional (if you have a hose, you can just hose out and scrub the box with paper towels). You will need a scoop, allow about $5 for the litter scoop, though sometimes you can find them cheaper.
Litter - $5 to $15, depending if you get clumping or regular. Clumping is MUCH easier to clean up. You can also get a cat mat to help reduce tracking of kitty litter onto your floor.
Cat furniture - I do recommend some sort of scratching surface that the cat is allowed to scratch on. You can make your own with plywood and carpet or buy one for $25 and up. These are usually found at pet stores.
Otherwise, the cat may decide to scratch up your sofa, or mattress, or whatever the cat chooses to be convenient.
Claw trims - about $8 per month or so. This helps reduce damage caused by scratching on undesired surfaces.
Cat brush - $6 to $10. If you have a long-haired cat, or don't want a lot of shedding, this is strongly recommended.
Flea treatment - Depends on the brand. Be sure to use products for cats, not for dogs. Some lower-end brands can be very irritating to your cat's skin over time, or cats may become allergic to them. You can sometimes still find cheap flea collars, but these tend to be irritating, and generally are replaced better with spot treatments. Store brands run from $5 to $100. Frontline is known as a good brand. Your vet may also have higher end spot treatments that are gentler to cat's skin available. Most cats will not usually need shampoo, unless there is a serious pre-existing flea infestation, or unless you plan to show the cat.
Collar (for hanging id) - about $5 usually.
Microchipping - (optional but recommended) ask your local vet about this. If your cat is indoor only and does not usually go out, microchipping may be an alternative to a collar depending on your local regulations, and will help you find the cat if your kitty ever gets lost, or loses the collar then gets lost.
