This summer is the worst my dogs have experienced with fleas.
There is an annual heart worm shot. Is there any hope of an annual flea/tick control vaccination in the future?

Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to give me your input.
I have tried a couple of the methods mentioned, Advantage, Frontline and Sentinel.
This year seems partiucularly bad.
Bullyzistin - the annual heart worm protection is called Proheart SR-12 injection. So much easier than a monthly heartworm tablet!

Many of the topical flea treatments they make today, such as Advantage, Frontline and Program, are very effective. They're also quite easy to apply, and don't involve all the muss and fuss associated with most sprays and powders. They're generally applied between the pet's coat once a month. They spread over the animal's whole body, and provide long lasting protection.
Using natural flea control methods
Instead of using chemical flea treatments on your pet and in your home, you may prefer to try some natural flea control methods. These involve home remedies, such as diatomaceous earth and essential oils, which will kill or deter fleas without chemicals. The first step to effetively controlling fleas without toxic chemicals is to ensure that they're eating a nutritious diet which will promote their overall health.
Feeding your pet garlic and brewers yeast can help repel fleas. Good grooming is another good way to both be aware of fleas on your pet, and eliminate those that exist. See our natural flea control page for more information.
Regardless of your flea control needs, the information in this site should help you make an informed decision regarding the best products or methods for your particular problems. I've never heard of a heartworm shot, but if there is one out there it's a great idea. Most flea and tick products are monthly, as are most heartworm products. I would venture to guess there may someday be a flea shot, but who knows. The problem is the pesticide wears off/gets used up. so does the stuff in heartworm medication, so I'd be interested to know how the shot works, perhaps you have a link? I know heartworm testing should be done every year...
Anyway, a good product to use on both dogs and cats is Frontline Plus, it's what we sell at the clinic and it's what I use on my dogs. I prefer Revolution for cats, though, as it also prevents internal parasites and heatworms. Both are applies to the back of the neck/between the shoulder blades. remember that flea control will a take few months ro show the full effect, as fleas are in different stages in the life cycle at different times. Also, it;s best to keep them on flea control year-round, as fles can hatch out at about 40 degrees F, and ticks can become active at about 45 degrees F. Fleas can also live indoors in nearly any climate at any time of the year. If your house is infested, you'll have a really tough time getting id fo it, so it's best to prevent when possible.
Hmmm, I looked this heartworm vaccines up and it's an awesome idea! I read some bad things about the 6 month one, but that was 3 years ago and I'm sure there have been huge advances since then (other than lasting 12 months rather than 6). I really do hope they come out with a flea one like that too someday...

you know that you must have youre dog still get their fleas and virus and healthy care shots least every years til they do get to their old age? why, that cause so that youre dog can have a better life and stay alive longer without not having any healthy problems til future. but you can get youre dog a fleas collar or even get a advages medicans for the dog. it helps to stop the fleas bugs not to lay any more fleas eggs on the dog body . you shouldnt have youre dog play around the green weeds grasses in the yard or even on the sand cause there two ways how youre dog can caught the fleas from . fleas bugs does live on the grounds outside .

Frontline is the best flea treatment I've tried for my dog. Use it once a month and you should not experience problems. Once there has been an infestion, however, make sure you treat your house so your dog doesn't get reinfested. There are good sprays/bombs to make sure that your carpets, etc. are flea-free. Good luck!

the only treatments to work come from the vets they are expensive but very worth it
forget powders they are rubbish they may help just to get rid of some on the concrete but hosing down & keeping the area cleaner is better than using powder as it will get up your nose & into your lungs as well
