In the terms you're asking about, it's the items that are placed in the "bottom" or belly of the plane. The area where luggage and the like are stowed is refered to as the cargo hold.
There are some companies such as FedEx and UPS as well as others that only transport cargo.

Cargo would be considered anything you bring on the plane, whether it be luggage that has to be checked or carry-ons.

Cargo is goods that is shipped via aircraft etc think of it like baggage......it makes $$$ for the airline, just like UPS etc........
