I am a female in the ivy league and even here, the men would rather date those ditzy sorority girls than an astrophysics/math major. Make no mistake, I am not a geek at all (I separate academics from my social life). Or unattractive. But most men just back off after a few dates. My friends told me they 'dumb down' at parties or other social events so they don't scare men off. Should I do that too?

Absolutely. Dumb yourself down. That way, you too can find a man who wants to date an attractive idiot.

Sarcasm aside, there's a nugget of truth there: far more men want attractive idiots than attractive braniacs, because there are far fewer attractive braniac men (aka guys who can get attractive braniac women) than attractive idiot guys (who are scared off by attractive braniac women.)

So, make the choice:

You can get a lot more dates, from far less intelligent and interesting men, by playing dumb. That way you'll go out on dates and feel popular, pretending to be someone that you're not.

Or, you can get relatively few dates, from far more intelligent and interesting men, by being yourself. That way you'll go out on relatively few dates and feel unpopular, but significantly increase your odds of finding the kind of guy you can spend the rest of your life with.

Your choice. Feel free to use all 174 IQ points that you posses in making this decision.

Oh, and you might want to remember that IQ points are not the measure of a person; they're simply a score on a standardized test. If you're running around trumpeting your IQ score -- or telling everyone how intelligent you are -- odds are very good that your awesome brainpower is not your problem.

That's sad, that even men in the Ivy League don't want to have a relationship with a girl that is smart.

I may be going to an Ivy League college in the fall, and I couldn't stand having a relationship with a girl that I couldn't talk to intelligently about important things -- but not all men think that way, I'm afraid. Make no mistake, I wouldn't date someone totally into the feminist movement, or someone thinking they're going to be the leader in the relationship, but neither do I want to date someone STUPID. I don't need that kind of self-reassurance to convince me that I'm a man.

Don't you dare 'dumb down' to men, or you'll end up stuck with one that doesn't want you to use your mind. Find someone that appreciates who you are, someone who is both smart and wise enough to love you.

Dumb down? Hell, no! Don't demean yourself! If it means not dealing with men who are afraid of intelligent women, I'd consider that a definite plus. Come on, I'd expect more logic from an astrophysics/math major... Think outside of the norms, okay?

I have a 145 IQ and majored in History/Political Science. Wanna go out? :P (My focus was the Renaissance; we can discuss Galileo over lattes!)

There, that wasn't so hard, was it? Just remember: STUPID guys are afraid of smart women. There just happens to be a lot more stupid guys on the planet (yes... even in ivy league.)

Stay smart and stay sexy ;)

If you're telling them your IQ, that might seem a little egotistical, but if not, just give it time. Maybe you're hanging out with guys who are not of the "intellectual type."

Don't bring up your qualities... Let our qualities find their own way out. Focus on the qualities that the guy is emanating.
