Will be piercing close up?
I really want to get a monroe piercing. My only concern is that I may eventually have to take it out for a few hours at a time (i.e. when the grandparents are around, family parties and such) I am just wondering, if I have it for a few months and take it out for a couple hours to a whole day, will the hole close up during that time? How long will I be able to have it out for? And how long (like how many months) do I have to wait before I can take it out for a few hours? Also, I want just a little tiny rhinestoney one...is that possible?

They make silicone inserts that you can put in to keep the piercing from growing up. This site has all kinds of things for your piercing.

Everyone who tells you that thats 5-10 is not enough time for it to close is seriously misinformed, it varies on your healing period. My husband has 20 piercings most of wich heal fast, he took out his labrets (he had 2) and they were fully closed within about 20 minutes, he went joggin one day and one of his frenum barbells was loose or something and if fell out and it was nearly closed when he realized it about half an hour later....so as you can see it varies from person to person...but a piercing can close in about 5-10 minutes if you heal really fast...so it just depends on your body.
i would suggest a clear retainer if you are able to get away with that

Oral piercings tend to close up quickly, even months after they are pierced. I took my 5 month old vertical labret out for an hour and had to get it re-pierced. I couldn't even get a 20 ga taper in.

Your best bet is to get a clear plastic retainer if you need to take it out for a while. It wont be totally invisible (but they will notice a hole in your lip just as much) but it should hide it pretty well.

You've got to give a Monroe piercing 6 weeks at least to heal, using sea salt may make it heal faster but as long as you leave it in for the 6 weeks, you should be fine.
You can get anything you want, just check out different piercing shops if you dont' see what you want initally. It needs to be surgical steel to start with but you can change it up once it's healed.
Good luck..........my nieces both have piercings (eyebrow, nose, lip, and tongue) and I have belly button and nose and ears and my parents (their grandparents who they live with) don't trip on it, so it may not be as big of a deal as you think to your grandparents. I guess it depends on your age and their attitude, but please just make sure you get someone good to do it so you don't end up with an infection and make sure you do the aftercare EXACTLY as you are told...........

YOU MUST LEAVE IT PIERCED UNTIL IT'S HEALED..
then you can take it out for up to a week without it closing.
I had a monroe and it took months to close..
and my ears I haven't had earings in for almost a year
and they have not closed.
I'm sure if you only take it out for a day or two
it won't close as long as it is healed first.
Yeahh you can get a rhinestone.
You can get anything...

Usually in six months holes stay open for a few days without problems. Even sooner....a few hours don't hurt.

You might be suprised that your family might not mind your piercings all that much. Every generation has their unique edge to it. Your family might be more open minded than you think.

Hmmm...

Going by my experience (I have a lip piercing), it will probably be okay to take it out for maybe a day once it is fully healed. While it is still tender and painful, it could close up within a minute or two (really). Once it is healed though, you should be safe.
