It's very stressed, it's the same as us, yawning is a sign of increased heart rate, need for oxygen. Keep the room quite and warm and the light low untill this little guy settles down. I think he would be helped by a companion bird. He also could be threatening you, but you should be able to hear a ahh ahh ahh noise as he opens his beak, but his fear may be so great he cannot make the hissing bird sound, do not let this bird become more frightened than he already is. Cover his cage for added seclusion and feeling of safety for a day and little by little expose him to the new surroundings, this is the picture of a wild female. Females are much more aggressive than males and posture like that in fear.

My boy Peety used to do that when I first got him. Your parakeet doesn't know you yet and he is just warning you to leave him alone. Try giving him a Cheeto, puffs are easier to break up, Peety stopped once he found out what Cheetos were.

Most of the time my birds do this, it means its regurgitating food, like it stores it in its cheeks, or swallows it, and then it spits it back up.....when he does this, it will probably extend his neck too...Nothing is wrong with him...hes perfectly fine. Oh, and please, if you know anything about birds, DO NOT GIVE THEM CHEETOS! For one they are very salty, and can make a bird very sick.....for two, if they have ANY dairy in them (due to cheese, or whatever else) it will make it sick...birds are lactose intolerant!!!!
