Because the fashion industry has some very sick ideas of what makes a woman "attractive". This might be because many fashion designers are gay, and don't particularly like feminine looking women to begin with.
Honestly, I think most of those models are very unattractive - who wants to see a ribcage and hipbones? Women are supposed to be curvy and feminine - not bony and scrawny.
Many of the models look like concentration camp survivors or residents of a refugee camp.... and who the hell think's that's cute????

Because they are anorexic, or bulemic. They have fallen for the designers ideas of what a woman should wear size wise, etc. And the camera adds 10 lbs in the photos. They should start being like Tyra Banks-who has gained weight since not modeling, and is happy with her current weight. Plus, on magazine covers etc, the models photos are airbrushed or computerized airbrushing techniques. So that they look "perfect". in the photos. I wish they would not be so thin, that they would be their regular weight. But until society lets designers, etc., know this, it will probably continue.

Because they haven't eaten in years, and they are like death warmed over. Unfortunately this is the look that designers want for their clothing.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks that super models aren't so super.

Nobody thinks Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated models look anorexic...on the other hand, runway models do--i think that's what she meant..

They don't. Get over yourself. If the Sports Illustrated (just out, yeah!) and Victorias Secret models, which is your basic supermodel definition, look anorexic, then I'm Mary Poppins.
It's called being in shape.

That's a good question. I personally don't find it attractive at all and I think most people would agree. It's some "ideal" that seems to be perpetuated by industry and media interests. I'd much rather see healthy and athletic.

malnutrition... they don't eat properly or the right portions of things.. they substitute what they should be eating with other food supplements.. they don't exactly take that good of care of themselves.. it's really sad. What's even more sad is people admire them for their looks when we should be pitying them for their lack of health!
