I would like to hear from other Christians as to why they think we need to defend God or our beliefs. After all, God could eliminate all the evil people in the world by simply speaking a word if He chose, right? So if that is the case, and I believe that God can do that, why does he need our poor defense? It seems to me that Jesus didn't bother defending God or even himself. Either someone believed in Him, or they did not. That was their choice.

He doesn't NEED defending. His sovereignty DESERVES defending, which He does on his own.

His true followers are following His commission to warn others of the coming flood of destruction, as in Noah's day, thus ridding mankind of the final excuse "I didn't know" and allowing those who would listen to be sheltered from the flood.

What makes you think we Christians believe that God needs Defending? I have never heard this before. Accepting God's Saviour has responsibilities attached to it. Have you read this before? The LORD said unto the Lord, sit at my right hand till our enemies be made your footstool. (paraphrased)

We Christians have been given a commission from God to spread the Good News to all nations of the Earth. This is planting seeds and letting God do the germination if that be His Will.><>

God doesn't require "defending" but "explanation" ! In the Book of Peter ( 1st Peter, Chapter 3, verse 15) . Jesus did defend His position to the Pharisees of His day, throughout the Gospels of the New Testament. Yes; God could eradicate the whole human race but in His mercy, He has elected to raise up the Christian Church to proclaim the Gospel [Good News] to the unconverted prior to intervening into the affairs of mankind.

I defend my beliefs, I don't push them on you.
I also take homeless people out to lunch on occasion, do charity work, consider my military life my career, put my friends near the top of the list, and put others before myself. But then again your average "Christian" either doesn't consider themself religious, or will damn you and everyone you know for every little thing you do wrong. A Christian is a follower of Christ, and thus, real Christians teach others through our actions and don't try to sell you our religion. Real Christians are happier for you when you find a religion that gets you pumped, not when you become a Christian.

I'm not asking anyone to be Christian, nor am I defending our God (Who doesn't need defending), but I will not ever sway to another belief system, that is the main reason for personally defending myself.

I dunno, lets say (comparatively) someone stuck a gun to your head... would you defend your life, or would you say, oh go ahead and shoot me, I don't care whether I'm living or not.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to forget God? According to "Free-Will" you can do this at the drop of a dime. And in most cases, you even can attack it to discredit it. And as we continue to grow as a massive population, Christianity is at "33%" Now, as a man of particular faith, I think that that "Stat" would mean that it is opposite spectrum. Yes? And There are some there are, honestly, in for the pay. (I think "Tax Break" comes to mind, possibly.) Further making this number weaker than it is. And, hey it came to me, so I just try to get stuff OUT OF MY HEAD. It starts with one book, does it not? (I could could get into my self being, but you, COULD not walk in these shoes for a hour. I guarantee that. And you find a *shrink that gives a damn, and I'll stop giving you honest answers. Everything I read reverts back TO ONE BOOK. Nuff said.) Dare I say it God has been with us since 0 B.C. OK? To me his voice relays in the conscience of man. A small silent voice of reason. And it is our honor to have such a friend watch over you, especially when no one else gives a frock about your problems. So this is WHY I defend God and Truth. =)

Witnessing to others, sharing our faith and the love we feel for God, is not defending God. Actually Jesus defends us to the Father when satan accuses us (read Job). God gave believers a heart of compassion and comissioned us to go out and be the light in the dark world. Defend God? Against who?

You're right, He could eliminate all the "evil" people in the world by speaking a word. However, God wants us to spread His message so that those "evil" people can be saved too. We defend Him as best we can, so that people might come to believe, and because we were told to make disciples of all nations.

God doesn't need defending. His word is like a lion. As Christians we are called to let the Lion loose!

1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.

Because God doesn't want to just obliterate the entire world, he wants to give people some time to make the choice of whether or not to follow him and find sanctification. The Bible says to always be prepared to give an answer for our faith. And Jesus FREQUENTLY debated. He was always telling people how they need to seek God, gain atonement, etc. Read Matthew 23. Jesus never said, "Well you are free to your opinion I wont interrupt you". He consistently said that people need to turn to God and that he was the way.

Actually, I don't think God needs defending. It's rather egotistical of myself to believe that as lowly as I am that I could actually defend God. I know that my words will not change Him and I know that someone who hates Him or doesn't believe in Him will not change Him either. I think that God is bigger than someone's unbelief or someone's policies made to supposedly take God out of everything (which I don't think that is the case either). My God is bigger than that, and He can handle that.

The bible tells me to have an answer for every man who asks for the hope that is within me. I do not have to defend that which is (God...and His word), because it will stand forever. What I do want to do is answer the questions that I can based on scripture.

Apologetics, "a defense of the faith", doesn't mean one is being defense-SIVE. It means we wish to proposed a reasoned explanation when someone questions, why or how...based on the word of God alone.
