I mean that I was evicted seven years ago due to a lay off, and I am now thinking about moving into a nicer home, however, I'm unsure of whether or not my eviction will show up when they do the credit check. I have read that it's seven years, but some said it stays on forever? I live in California, if that helps.

I would almost say 7 years, but in the back of my mind something is screaming at me about how that would be a public record and not like a collection type of debt. So, it would stay on for 10 years. Nothing stays on your credit report forever, expect child support, taxes owed and student loans.
