How much do you want to spend? If it's a LOT, get them a good digital SLR camera and a great macro lens, like a Nikon D80 and the Nikon 105 VR lens. This will cost close to $2000 by the time you are done

If it's even more, get them some Orascoptic 2.5X "telescopes" and a Zeon light source. This will cost about $1,500 for the glasses and $1,000 for the light source. Everyone - faculty included - will be jealous.
