This is why many criminal defense attorneys will not ask their client. It's better not to know if they did it or not in some cases.

If it were me I would excuse myself from the case as it would be unethical to represent the client. I would also advise the Prosecutor if I could. Unfortunately I would say about 75 percent of the time these defense attorneys fully know they have guilty clients but continue to represent them anyway. This is especially true if they are high paid lawyers. They will actually make up false defenses, bring in expert witnesses that are just paid to agree with whatever they say. I actually saw a case where the defense lawyer had brought in his own expert testimony from a Doctor who said that being on cocaine and marijuana at the same time would cause the drugs to offset each other and that his client would not have been adversely affected. If you got the money and are 100 percent guilty they do not care...Unfortunately...I honestly don't know how they sleep at night or how they can do that type of thing!!!! The funny thing is when they or their families become victims you should see how they change!!

A defense attorney does not care about the guilt or innocence of their client. It is irrelevent. They are there to ensure that the process is followed and their client receives a fair trial. They are not there for justice, they are their for the client.
As far as a crime being committed soon they would probably have some protection from charges of violating attorney-client privelage, depending on the crime. In the case of murder or some other serious felonies there may actually be a duty to report.

As long as the checks keep coming, an attorney will continue any case regardless of the facts or pending outcome. Now I will admit there are some - very few - that do not attach morals to money and will go above and beyond for the cause. But others are there for the cash regardless of the case.
In this instance the lawyer would start attacking technicalities of the case rather than the actual facts.

the defense attoreny should know the truth if they are guilty or not, and the defense attorney will defend them and try to get them off no matter what.
Now if they tell them of a crime that is going to be committed they have to report it.

I'd do like Capone's lawyer in The Untouchables. "Your Honor, we'd like to withdraw our plea of 'Not guilty,' and submit a plea of 'guilty'."
