im currently taking xalatan but got to stop becuz too many side effects i also dont want my hazel eyes to change to boring brown!!!! do i at least have the option of choosing eye drops that wont creat color change or the eye doctor wont give me that option!!!!??

There are many different kinds of eye drops for glaucoma. Your doctor should work with you in finding a drop that you can live with. The most important thing is to control the eye pressure and to not stop the drops unless instructed to do so by your doctor. While pressures are out of control can cause very little symptoms it will slowly cause blindness. An acute glaucoma attack (where pressure spike really high suddenly) can be very painful and cause permanent damage. One side effect of Xalatan is it causes very thick and long eyelashes. That may be a good trade off for the eye color! But seriously, contact your doctor and work together in finding a drop that works for you.

There are actually 6 different classes of eye drops you can use for glaucoma. the one you are taking is a prostaglandin, and is the only class that will change your eye color. Other classes include:
Beta-blockers (timolol)
Cholinergic Agonists
Alpha/Beta Agonists (Dipivefrin)
Alpha2-Agonists (Brimonidine)
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors
and
Combination products
Some of these decrease aqueous humor production and the others increase outflow of aqueous humor.
You should probably talk with your doctor to see what's best for you, but just so you know there are other choices

Insomnia and nightmares are listed however as rare side effects.
It might help if you told him 2 of the effects are listed. If you report other side effects he is duty bound to 'yellow card' report all these events to the CSM= Committee on Safety of Medicines, whether or not he believes them to be due to the drug!

some other meds for glaucoma are lumigan, travatan, and rescula. it would help if we knew what type of glaucoma you had in order to know what types of meds you would need, ones that increased the flow of aqueous humor through drainage or output
