why does it keep saying that. the only way to get rid of that is to erase everything on it. How can I fix it?

The card either is full, dirty, needs to be formatted, or it's broken.

Check the card slot and the card for dirt or damage. If you cannot see anything in the slot, just blow it out.

If the card is full, upload the pics to computer.

Then put the card in the camera.
Go into the Setup Menu and find Format.
Then let the camera format the card.

(Do not just delete the pics on the card from the computer. The card needs to be especially formatted for your camera.)

If none of these actions solves the problem, the card is probably defective. Try a different card. If that works, return or replace the original card.
