I have a domestic shorthair tabby, but if I had to pick a purebreed, I would want either one of these....

Siberian
Siamese
Turkish Van
Norwegian Forest Cat
Ragdoll
Maine Coon

Which one you think I should get from those and why? If not, which one would you prefer? I know not every cat is the same...all have different personalities, but which are known to have the gentlest temperment?

Of these breeds, the Maine Coon is known as the gentle giant. Personally, I like domestic shorthairs myself over any purebred. Unless you plan to show a cat, give me a good old-fashioned mixed breed...they are smarter and make better pets.

Well they are all different in their own way and your best bet is to call some reputable breeders and talk to them about those breeds. I have found that breeders have a wealth of knowledge and can tell you all the pluses and minuses of a breed. We own an Abyssinian which is a very unique and cool breed. They are more dog or human like and not your typical feline. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me at mckennakaylee@yahoo.com subject line Abyssinian.

It depends on YOUR personality. A Siamese will talk you to death. They are extremely vocal. We had a Turkish-Van and they are absolutely wonderful, gentile creatures. We called her a flumf because that is what she was. Never had a Ragdoll, but I understand they are a more laid-back cat...even more so than the turkey-van. We have a Maine Coon and she is nuts. A great cat but ours is really annoying. Good luck. From my experience, go with the Van.

I don't follow breed...I have my cats by miracles I would call them.
Mi old Cat Bombom: her mother was a stray-cat that I use to feed outside my door, the short story she was born in the hall of my house and She is the sweetest cat I ever had.
My younger Cat Cookie: I use to work ensambling Wedding gowns and my Boss cookie's owner brought her in a box and ordered me to put the box in the street (it was 15 degrees below zero) when I put the box in the street, I felt like something was scratching inside the box; I opened the box and I saw the cutest black and white kitty with one black patch on one eye and another white patch on the other eye. Well I kept the kitty.

I do have a domestic short-haired tabby, too. His name is Oby. I like watching him catching imaginary flies from the air.

If I were you, I would want the EGYPTIAN MAU. It is one of the rarest cats on Earth; 6000 only so far. My late grandfather had 5 of them.

Here is a link to get yourself familiarised with the MAU:

I would go for the Maine coon they are just so darn cute and pretty gentle cats. I would stay away from Siamese cuz even though they are cute they are temper mental and sometime arent the most loving cats

I love the Ragdolls & Maine Coons, but prepare yourself
for fur.
Siamese males are very unique, where they will accept
kittens that are not their own.
Honestly, if a kitty needed a home, the breed wouldn't
matter to me.

if you would have asked me before feburary 12,i would have said a mixed breed. now i say a maine coon. our little guy is so loving, smart and adorable. he is smart and funny. he follows you around the house like a dog. keeps us warm by snuzzling us with his long fur. we got our guy from the humane society. try looking up different breed rescue groups and see if you can visit to see the in purrson and watch their purrsonality. which ever you choose, i wish you the same happiness, love and joy we found with our kai guy
