I agree with SAS. It's not America using Israel, it's Israel using America or to be more specific, the Jewish Lobby in the USA is using their influence manipulating the US goverment.
There are many decisions made by the US goverment in favor of Israel under the influence of this lobby. It's all about election, voting and money.
The ordinary people don't have anything to do with that. No matter if being a Jew, an Israeli, an Arab, an American or anything else.
Wondering how many thumbs down I will receive an this again.
Take care!

Neither America Nor Israel is a charity organization and neither can afford to use the other as a bulldog. They are both trying to benefit through securing their interests.
Some Arab countries are also trying to secure their interests with the USA which is also a good thing.
I believe there should be a solution in which all parties maximize their benefits. This is basically game theory and solutions like that are feasible.

Israel would have to be a bulldog in the Middle East, unfortunately, with or without America's involvement.

Israel does very little bulldogging. While it works continuously to defend its own borders, it doesn't do much beyond that. The only action that comes to mind is the bombing of the Iraqi nuclear reactor. It's not as if it does anything to keep any other countries in check, just fights when attacked.

Israeil without USA is totally toothless animal, but Israel with its political muscle in twisting and influencing USA elections is the master of the bulldog in the White House!
It is thus, the USA administration is the Israeli bulldog in the Middle East, and hasen't the dog been doing well to its master!!
All the best!/

No, I don't agree with you, I think American is doing plenty of bulldoging in the Middle East without Israel. I really don't think the Saudi's will allow Israel to play with the strings they have attached to their favorite puppets. Bush and Cheney answer to the House of Saud, not Israel or the American people.

No, I don't think so. I think America (and the West) are supporting Israel because Israel needs all the help it can get, honest to God. Israel isn't a country, it's a fortress, a nation unique among nations in that it has been almost continuously at war for sixty years, battling for its existence, its survival. It all started on May 15th, 1948, when the armies of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq poured into the Jewish State with the sole intention of its destruction. In the words of the Secretary General of the Arab League at the time, it was to be a war of extermination, of massacres that would be spoken of like the wars of the Crusaders and Mongols. I'm Egyptian and I live in Egypt. Supposedly we've been at peace with Israel under the terms of the Egypt Israel Peace Treaty of 1979, and have enjoyed diplomatic relations for almost 30 years, and I can sadly tell you that nothing has changed since 1948. Whenever I watch Egyptian news broadcasts, I don't see Israel anywhere - no borders between Gaza and Israel, or the West Bank and Israel, or Jeruasalem and Israel, nothing. The entire land is called Palestine. My friend is a year younger than I am and goes to my old high school and they were using this American history book. The first thing that happened when they got it was the principal coming in and telling them to cross out every occurence of the word 'Israel' and replace it with 'Palestine' since Israel wasn't a country. Why, they asked? Orders of the Ministry of Education. Days later inspectors from the Ministry arrived and they were unhappy with the book's portrayal of the Holocaust and a diagram of a yellow Star of David Hitler forced the Jews to wear and other vicious propoganda. In the end the book was confiscated and they now use the same Egyptian history books I used with their strong anti-Semitic content. In my religion class in the 12th grade we were taught about how the Jews supposedly betrayed Muhammad in seventh century Arabia and the book said and I quote, "The Jews of today are no different from the Jews of Prophet Muhammad's time and we can only pray to Allah to save us from their treachery." So yeah, let me assure you that my people still dream of Israel's destruction and would gladly try to make it a reality were the government to allow it. Yes, my friend, Israel needs all the help it can get.

Israel is not a special case in this regard, the USA uses many other countries for their benefit.

No, I don't agree with you, BUT, I can say that the mutually respecting relationship has benefits for both, just like the USA and Britain. We provide the technology and maybe some financial benefits and they take care of their safety, which does focus on nations who are giving us problems as well as them. It's been that way as long as history has recorded national histories. God Bless you.
