I have a house with wide plank pegged hardwood flooring. I would like to match this hardwood in an attic renovation I'm planning. Are pegged hardwood floors still available? Do they cost more than standard hardwood floors? Also, my builder is suggesting 3/4 inch unfinished hardwood. Is this an expensive choice?

Pick up a copy of Fine Homebuilding, there are ads in there for all different kinds of flooring options. The articles are geared toward builders, but they give good insight into what you should look for as your house is being renovated.

Yes, wide plank pegged hardwood floors are still available but generally through select dealers.

Yes, because of their rising popularity, especially for more expensive homes, they do cost more per sq.ft. than other (new) wood flooring or wood laminate flooring.

Yes, 3/4" unfinished hardwood is more expensive than what is generally needed in an attic...unless the attic is going to be a regular living area with heavy furniture and frequent use.

I've used scrap barn siding (approx. 1/2" unfinished pine...softwoood) for an attic and not only was the material sufficient for a storage attic and nearly free but I had enough to finish the walls with the weaker, more cracked boards. I got the wood by getting a farmer's permission to scavenge his fallen-down barn for $25/hr....I was loaded and gone in 45mins.

Hey There!

I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.

Yes, pegged wide plank flooring is still out there if you know where to look. Have you considered IKEA? I would start there first!

I’m an IKEA Regional Manager and was informed of a private website at my last regional managers meeting that ended up to be a promotion we’re doing.

This website is giving away several hundred $1,000 IKEA Giftcards for just putting in your zipcode. It’s a marketing campaign they are doing to see what areas of the country people are interested in IKEA!

You can’t go wrong… Just put in your zipcode and get a $1,000 IKEA Giftcard.

You could get a whole flooring makeover for the free $1,000!

Heck, you could even get the FREE Giftcard and sell it on ebay and go buy stuff somewhere else with the money you just made!
