Q. Do bridesmaids have to pay for their own dresses?

A. Bridesmaids are generally expected to pay for their own wedding-day ensemble (shoes and jewelry included). Talk to your bridesmaids individually about any financial concerns, and tactfully work out a solution that suits both of you -- maybe you will pay for half or all of the cost, or you can set up a payment plan. Above all, try to choose a dress that's reasonably priced, or consider letting your maids choose their own gown. Give some color/style requirements (i.e., black and ankle length), and ask them to show you the dress for final approval (just in case it's a little too risque for grandma's taste).

Found that somewhere on the internet. :)

The bridesmaids pay for their own dresses and a considerate bride picks an inexpensive dress. I have been in two weddings were the gowns cost more than $250, which is ridiculous. Speak up now, because you will NEVER wear the gown again.

Bridesmaids typically pay for their own dresses. You may come across a bride or two that has either paid for, or contributed money towards the dresses if they were a bit spendy. Most brides however are very cost-conscious, caring people and pick out ensembles that can be worn later for other occasions that arent very expensive.

They sometimes pick mix and match separates without have a "uniform" for the outfit.

In my experience bridesmaids have paid for their own dresses. I've never known anyone who ever had a bride that paid for them. I've been in 7 weddings and I bought all of them myself. That is too bad that it is so expensive though.
I got married last year and my bridesmaids paid for their own. Although I picked a dress that was reasonably priced plus they all got a discount due us all buying everything at the same store. (I let them help pick them out too) Maybe you will luck out and be able to get a discount somehow? Good luck!

I have been a bridesmaid twice and I had to pay one of those times. Although I paid, I still had say in the dress. In the case where the bride paid, I had no say in the dress. So there you go~!

The bridesmaids always buy their own dresses. When i was married, I chose one that they would be able to wear again. It would be unusual for the bride to pay the expense.

Usually the bridesmaids pay for their own. However I also chose an expensive dress, so I paid for them all when I was married. It just seemed wrong to ask my friends to pay.

My bridesmaids paid for their own dresses. However, I was considerate of their budget. Sometimes the bride will pay for the dresses.

Typically the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses. I have been in one wedding where the bride's family paid for our dresses, BUT they were REALLY expensive, and the family was very wealthy.
