Any person would do anything in their power to prevent harm from coming to a loved one.
God can do this and doesn't.
But no one ever questions this.. why is that?
You could start with the free will stuff. But examine that notion.
A person is about to shoot your loved one. God can stop their heart and no one but the bad guy is hurt. Or at the very least make the gun jam, or make your loved ones shift out of the line of fire.
He made his choice to be a killer and god sorted him out. God would then himself be a beloved and admired entity. But this just never happens.
OR, you could go with the theory that god has a plan. A plan to allow your loved ones to die, i suppose? (assuming the previous scenario)
So the question is, why doesnt god do these protective things that we would (or at the very least send a angel to do it).

I see many answers, and yet no one says why god shouldnt be held accountable for not helping our loved ones in time of need.
If a police officer was available to stop someone from harming your family and said, But the guy has free will, who am i to stop him, you would seek to lynch the cop and stone him on the city walls.
And yet god could protect your family with ease and chooses not to do so. And your ALL OK WITH THIS?
What am i missing?

You don't realize how much God is like us. God kills like humans, just on a mass scale--the worldwide flood comes to mind and the killing of all the first born during the Jewish Exodus.
He is jealous like we are because he does not want to have any other Gods before him--ten commandments among other passages.
He committs fornication (sex without marriage); witness the impregnation of Mary the mother of Jesus.
He will send you to hell to burn for ever if you don't love him. Very similar to those sick people that kill their wife and children just because they are not loved in return.
Yes, since We invented God this is why the world is such a mess.

God cannot be held accountable because god is not all-powerful. Not by any means, the way I see it. Sure, god may have "created" the universe, but only in the sense that we create a plant by planting a seed. We cannot much control what grows from it, and I don't beleive that this god is even trying. If we were truly created in god's immage, then I beleive we were to have been expected to care for ourselves and the planet.
We aren't doing a very good job.

I don't understand why you & others say that God is a killer. Yes, He took many lives and He ordered the Israelites. But God had these lives taken for a reason. It wasn't just for the heck of it. God isn't a ruthless killer like Hitler or Dahmer. God had unfaithful people taken after generations of Him telling them and their families about Him and the Israelites telling them. And God has warned mankind since the beginning about what will happen when we follow HIm and when we don't. And through the centuries He has showed us exactly what happened when we follow Him and when we don't. Our children may feel His wrath for our disobedience. If we pass on our lack of faith to our children and to the next 4 generations, our 5th generation of unfaithful kinship may feel His wrath. God isn't joking around.
On the other side, He has blessed millions. He blessed Seth and his family and Abraham and Jacob and David. He took care of the Israelites, His choosen people for thousands of years. God blesses the Church. He sent Jesus and then His Holy Spirit. If you have faith you will see blessing throughout your life. If you teach your children and grandchildren, your blessings will be passed on to them.
How do you know that God doesn't stop people from sinning from time to time? There has been times when killers or rapists or muggers are about to do the crime and they don't. You may never know why they don't. Did they have a change of heart? Was someone else watching them? Did they 'chicken' out? This does happen we just don't hear about them as we hear about all the murders and rapes on the news.
I don't know if my loved one's death by a killer is part of God's plan or just due to an evil act. I guess I'll find out some day. But out of bad things I have been able to see good things. And that helps me deal with it all and brings me closer to God in my spiritual life. God is ineffable. I get headaches trying to think about it all. So when I think too much about Him, I stop and just thank Him for my life and my son's life and accept it all. And pray for another day to experience new experiences. God does not have to justify Himself to me or you. He can do whatever and whenever and for His own reason. If we have full faith and trust in Him, we should just know that it's happening for a reason and someday He will let us know.
Peace!

No, I think we should be more like God. Humans do dumb things like say that black people are animals and property and we cut babies out of mothers because they dont really want to be mothers.
On the contrary everyone Ive ever known has questioned why there is suffering and evil in the world. The problem is we do different things with it. Unbelievers use it as an argument against God. Believers use it as a question for probing Gods truth.
Ya God could do a lot of things and sometimes he does intervene. But by and large HUMANS make this a bad place to live, not God. He simply gives us the freewill to do what we're gonna do. Things are going to be perfect in Heaven, not here.
I think God shows his love in the fact that he is going to reward believers and punish sinners. That is both justice and love.
Everyone dies in case you didnt notice. Death is a penalty for sin in the world.
God hasnt made this world perfect because WE are not perfect. He IS however going to make a perfect world where there is going to be no pain or sorrow. god has allowed us to live this imperfect life either for him doing good things, or for evil doing bad things. He has given us both freewill and self-determination, but more importantly, he has given us salvation!

I was going to answer with "just a stranger on a bus" because it rhymed and your name was Shakespeare. Then you got all interesting in the details!
I agree and you make excellent points. The god of the bible has the morals of a spoiled toddler and doesn't deserve worship. If a human acted like that, they'd be labeled a criminal. Somehow when god does it, people find the behavior worthy of worship. It's just a sad, fear-based mindset.

God does not make bodies. God created the truth of us, as one perfect child. The child dreams of a world filled with more questions than answers. God knows this is a dream, and no harm can come to His child. We remain as created. In truth, harm does not exist...nothing unreal exists.

God has instilled the great gift of free agency--that liberty and freedom to choose for ourselves what paths we should take in mortality.
Also, we are on this earth to learn and advance from our trials and our joys, for it is a testing ground in so many ways to see if we will make the right choices to return to the Father's presence.
The Lord interferes in the natural order of things when it is His direct will to do so for whatever purpose He has.
Now to your question: Should God be more like us? We were made in His direct image and we should be more like Him because the scriptures teach that to be sound doctrine.

This life is a passing vapor. What counts is where shall we go after death and this is all that God is concerned with for you and I. The bible also says that He shall withhold no good thing from them who love Him and walk uprightly before Him. God has no obligation whatsoever to hear the prayers of a sinner unless they are seeking forgiveness through Jesus Christ. The bad things that happen in this life cannot be placed upon God. 10,000 years from now my loved one getting shot will not mean anything to me. Eternity will wipe all of that away. God is concerned with where we will spend eternity, that is why Jesus died for us.

okay so i do believe God has a plan because....
in 3rd grade my best friend and his family (mom, dad, and brother) were in a terrible car accident. his brother died on impact and he had severe internal damage, later dying of cancer. his parents survived but within two years lost both of their children. they became missionaries and now help thousands of people through rough times at to see the light of God.
Bradley and his brother and their family were good people, but God has a plan for us that even we can't understand. Without their deaths, there would be thousands of people out there right now not even having acess to the Gospel and not knowing how great life can be.
I lost my friend but I gained a lot of knowledge.

...Here we go again. Finite man trying to instruct God (Who is infinitely wise, holy, and right in all He does) how to be is pretty silly and arrogant.
...How much more like us could God become? Jesus cast aside His privileges as God and took on human flesh, and He was tempted in every point as we are, yet without sin. He was a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. He knew thirst, hunger, and hard work.
....The greatest protection we can give to anyone is the Gospel of Christ. It is our job as Christians to bring the Gospel message to every person we can, so they can trust in Jesus; then if/when they die, it's a big so what, because they immediately to be with Jesus in Heaven.
...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and be saved. (Acts 16:31)
...Whosoever will, may come.
