I had a normal MRI but still have back and leg pain. Hurts my calf when bending, straigtening leg, driving. Dr thinks it is 2 different problems, I disagree. Anyone else had this.

The doctor is sending me for an MRI of the calf now since the MRI is normal. The pain is shooting, not muscle like or spasm. It feels like an electric shock if that makes sense. I thought sciatica myself until nothing showed on the MRI. Is it still possibly it is but did not show? I had an open MRI which are not as acurate I was told.

An EMG can rule out any nerve damage or problems. Nuerotin is a great drug for nerve damages. I have severe nerve damage in both my legs and the nuerotin helps a lot.
You need to have your doctor run an EMG on your lower back and lower extremities.

There are many things it could be, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a blood clot could cause calf pain, you need to see a Neurologist and have an EMG. Sciatica would cause pain in your buttock, and down the leg.

Try consulting a orthopaedic. How can u be sure that its a nerve pain. In case its a nerve pain there are other tests if MRI is inconclusive like OMG/NCV study.

It would have been good to include the two things the Doctor thinks it is......my friend has numbness going down the leg and in the toes, and it turned out to be a bulging disk in the lower back pressing on the sciatica nerve. (But it showed up on their MRI. )

When your emotions are in high gear, your blood pressure goes up, your blood vessels swell and expand, to allow more blood flow in stressful situations, it's to feed the muscles with more oxygen and adrenaline in case you need to run or fight. (the fight or flight response) Your body can't tell the difference between extreme embarrassment and a predator. the swelling of these blood vessels causes pressure on nearby nerves. that's why you feel the pain.

. it does sound like two problems!! probably leg cramp in your calf muscle and maybe a muscle spasm in your lower back which is causing sciatic nerve pain radiating down your leg. i have the leg cramps if i dehydrate, or overuse my legs. my lower back problem is sciatica caused by a recurring spasm in a previously pulled muscle.

sounds like scyatica? the main nerve in your back may be pinched or disturbed. i have that problem.
my husband has spinal issues, the spinal colum is srinking, pinching the nerve. he has those issues as well.
if you are not happywith one docs opinion, try another.
try holistic therapy, massage, accupressure.
change in diet with releive swelling.
good health to you!
