My best friend and I are both really supportive of the Armed Forces. There have been a couple of times when we've met someone who mentions that they're active duty or a veteran, and she's asked if she could kiss them on the cheek! No one has ever said no, but I've tried to tell her that this is inappropriate, and that "thank you" or something like it, with a handshake is enough. Maaaaybe a hug. But a kiss? I dunno, it just seems weird to me. Would you let someone kiss you as a gesture of respect/support/gratitude?

If they were cute i would.
Kissing someone on the cheek is not a big deal.
I'd say a hug is more intiment than a kiss on the cheek.

To me gratitude is an attitude and sense of thankfulness that comes from within. As I have gotten older I feel more of an intense gratitude for so many little things. The "small stuff" in life doesn't seem as important. I think respect is something that I try to give to all unless they have done something to deserve otherwise. Respecting others differences and opinions is something that I also feel is important. I don't always agree with others actions or thoughts, but I do respect the fact that it's their thoughts. I can have my own and still show respect for another even if it is to be quiet at times, if that seems to be the way to go.

I get kissed and hugged every Sunday and my wife has no problem with it. Even today, a lady I've known about a year and see from time to time, hugged and kissed me on the cheek. Her BIG hubby grabbed and hugged me, too. If you feel compelled to hug and give a kiss on the cheek to one of our military men, feel free. I doubt if anyone would take offense at it.
By the way, I've been 'kissed' by a Russian scientist, several Saudi sailors, a French attache (and his wife and daughter, in Viet Nam), and several Sicilians. Never once did I take offense.
If I were on active duty and in uniform and a lady gave me a kiss, it would be accepted with pride.

I think that a hug or a handshake would be more appropriate. But as long as she asks and gets permission, I don't see a big problem with the kissing.

I wouldn't do a kiss. Most people (men) would not want to say no - cause they don't want to hurt feelings.
But if the male is married - a spouse might take offense.
She doesn't need to go around kissing military anyway.

In many cultures, that kind if behavior is perfectly normal. Even expected.
If she's comfortable with it, and she asks permission, I don't see anything wrong with it.
