I got married last year in a Catholic Church. The only thing my priest ever mentioned about music was just that we keep it appropriate for church and he left it at that. We did not have to have it approved by him or a music director like someone else mentioned. We met with our organist/pianist about 4 weeks or so beforehand and picked out music. He was very helpful since he had done many weddings in our church. We picked Valentine by Martina McBride for before the wedding. I had more traditional music for the bridesmaids and myself to walk in to and also for the recessional. Then the only other song we had to pick was one for during the unity candle. We ended up with a song I had never heard that he suggested. It was perfect because it was a shorter song that fit in that time frame. I only had the ceremony and not a full mass since I am Catholic and he is not.
Also, I know that other people in the same church used From this Moment. I don't know if it was before the ceremony or during though. My suggestion would be to talk to your priest about what he allows. I bet it may vary by priest since it might be their opinion on what is acceptable or not. Or if you have an experience organist/pianist they would be able to help you with that as well.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

Your priest should already have discussed this with you. Are you sure you're actually getting married in 6 weeks? These details are not normally left to the last minute. Also in the Catholic church all music must be approved by someone, sometimes the priest, sometimes the music director. You need to have a serious discussion with your priest in case any other important decisions haven't been made.

You can pick your own music, but I doubt Shania Twain will be an option. You should meet with the music director at the church and she/he will play some songs for you and you will pick which ones you like. I brought my dad and when one of the songs was played, he started crying, i said "this is the one we're walking down the aisle too!!!"

It usually depends on the parish priest. With so much abuse of relaxed church rules many parishes are going back to more traditional music. I think that song is perfect for a wedding. Just remember to respect the priest and the church. Also it sounds like you may not be Catholic. A great gift you can give your spouse is to learn about their faith. It's sooooooo much more than rules and regulations. God bless you in your marriage and your future. I'm thrilled for you!!

I an a wedding Photographer and I just married 18 months ago. If you are truly getting married in 6 weeks the you would have talked to your priest and I'm sure that he would have given you an order of ceremony. If you didn't talk to him yet then I recommend you do so.

I think that you can choose the music, but only to a certain extent. Keep the church service with religous-type wedding songs, and save the otehr songs for your reception. That would be an awesome song for a first dance. Congrats on your wedding!

In the church I was married in, they only allowed secular or classical music. The music director will be able to tell you what your church's rules are.
From this Moment was the song me and my husband had our first dance to at our reception. We even quoted part of the song on the last page of our program.

Yes, but within limits.
The parish wedding coordinator or music director should be able to funish you with guidelines for choosing music.
Congratulations.
