When the phase "through back fighter" is used, I think of Harry Wills. He was tougher than nails and would use what ever tactic worked, legal or otherwise. Max Baer was big, strong and in many ways a jovial and friendly type of guy. Wills was so mean he made Ty Cobb seem friendly and out going. The personality differences of the fighters more so than skill or strength would play a role in the outcome.

I think Wills would do whatever he had to do to win, and eventually Max would absorb enough elbows, thumbs, low blows, and rabbit punches to wear down. It would be a dirty, foul filled brawl, and the edge would go to Wills if the ref didn't disqualify Harry.

Harry Wills by KO in 12
