First off, this is not a behaviour to be punished. Obviously, you want her to like people that come around. I am amazed by pet owners that don't allow their dogs to lick them at all. This is an affectionate thing and good sign versus nipping at people!

Now you can deter the amount and extent of licking that is ok. She is wanting attention from everyone too. Start with taking her collar and removing her from the person, praise her for being a good girl and sit her beside you. You will need yur friends to cooperate by basically ignoring her attentions and nicely pushing her mouth away from them. Be consistant and firm in moving her from the licking activity to a sit position near you. Work toward her lying calmly in the area and not bothering folks.

She is not doing anything "wrong" to be punished for. Simply to let her know that she needs to stop. Give her a treat or toy to occupy her and out of everyone's way. It may take awhile depending on how much of a "love" she is and that is a good quality in any dog. Ask your friends to help with this and not encourage her. You have to let her know the limits of her behaviour in a firm, positive tone of voice. Reward for lying down and being good.

Some dogs are lickers by nature. I have a big pack. Some of mine are affectionate more than others. We rescue so many dogs that have no clue how to interact with people. At least a dog that likes people is not a threat! You don't want to change that by confusing your dog and acting like it is being bad. Be patient. You have obviously shown your pup attention and affection and nurtured a sweet heart of a dog. Give her something to do/play with while folks are around.

She is still a pup and will outgrow some of this behaviour with time.

The only person on this thread to have given useful advice is Pets4Life. She makes excellent points that you should listen to.

Your dog is being friendly. Unlike jumping on people, licking doesn't usually create a bad situation. If your friends don't like her to lick them, tell them to walk away from her when she starts it and to ignore her.

Dogs do most things for attention (like barking and jumping on people). Ignoring them stops unwanted behaviors quickly. Don't shove her off, or punish her for licking - just turn away and ignore. Then praise her and pay attention to her when she stops to lick.

This is the way dogs kiss and people have salts on their skin that the dogs lick off. You just need to says NO strongly or scold her in some way.

I know it sounds mean, but whenever the dogs tongue comes out, grab it and hold for about five seconds. After about a week, my dog quit licking me.
