I just started working out. My current diet is I eat low carbs for 2 days, then I eat moderate carbs for 2 days, and have 1 day for higher carbs. Then I start back at low carbs continuing cycle.

I recently bought whey protein that's 55g of protein a serving with like a gram or two of carbs.

If my protein shake is absent of carbs can it still cause me to gain weight or is it an ok supplement to have in diet?

Thanks

You count the calories from your shakes into your total caloric intake. If you take in the same amount of calories that you burn, your weight stays the same. Still, it really does matter what else you have in your diet. If by high carbs you mean a sweet potato, then the beta kerotene will be a bonus. If you mean a bag of Oreos you probably should rethink things. If this diet is something that works for you, great...as long as you can keep it up. To answer your question, as long as you count in the calories from your shakes and get whatever carbs you need from other foods, then it is an ok supplement.

Look into 'Dr Lothar Wendts Theory' concerning protein consumption - 55 grams is too much per serving.
