FEC = Forward Error Correction, Extra bits are added to a data stream to allow a small number of errors to be automatically corrected at the receiver.

1/3 , means for every 1 bit of information 3 bits of data are sent - very inefficient, but more errors can be corrected

2/3 means for every 2 bits of information 3 bits of data are sent - more efficient but only a few errors can be corrected.
