Technically if the Queen ordered the Army to invade a country there isn't anything the Prime Minister could do about it.
Tony Blair doesn't hold a rank in the British Army whereas the Queen holds the highest rank.
It is unlikely this will ever happen though. Our government is their so that the Queen doesn't have to make decisions like that.

Ive read most of the answers on this question and learnt alot, but what I did know to start of with is that I made my Oath of Allegiance to the Queen and e.t.c and if Tony Blair and the Queen stood together and I received orders from both I'd follow the orders of the Queen and I know alot of my mates would. My regiment is the Household Cavalry and its main role the reason it was formed was to be the Monarchs bodyguard and this is still performed today on a ceremonial level thats why we ride alongside HRH carriage and not alonside Tony Blairs car.

The Queen is the British Head of State, but the role is essentially ceremonial. The Prime minister is, in effect, the political Head of State.
Marty - your answer is a political rant and is inaccurate. The Thatcher government made more cuts to the Armed Forces than either the previous or subsequent Labour Governments.

To put it in context:
The Queen is legally entitled to disolve Parliament and forcibly remove all the politicians. If she gave the order, 99% of British soldiers would happily drag Blair out in the street and batter him on behalf of Her Majesty. And they'd have the support of 250,00 auxilliary intelligence officers and a million or so ex-servicemen and women. What would a load of politicians do to fight back?
Also, in case you didn't notice - it's Blair who's big on invasion's not the Queen. It would probably be the Queen ordering the troops not to invade.
Yes, the Queens authority is the highest of any person in Great Britain.
Down with the House of Commons. Long Live the Queen.

As you can see here the people who know are the service men and ex service men.All members of the forces swear allegiance to the sovereign not the government. It is unlikely to happen but I when serving and everyone I knew would only follow the Queen.I don't know about the dominions(New Zealand,Canada and Australia)

I can see your grasp of world matters is shaky at best. The Queen is head of state in name only. All operational matters are the province of Tony Blair; about the only times when he needs her approval on anything are the calling of an election, and yes, declarations of war.
Bear in mind the UK did NOT formally declare war on Iraq; so no royal assent was needed.
That said, there is no power in the land high enough to overturn a Royal Decree; so yes, technically if she wanted to get pi$$y she could indeed override Blair and order them all out to Iraq or wherever, and absolutely anything else she wants, but there'd be riots in the streets.

In theory the Queen could tell the Armed forces to do what ever she wished and that would be it.
In practice how ever it is very unlikely ever to happen as most of those types of decisions are left to the politicians.
The Oath of allegiance we all sign is to Her Majesty, and her heirs and successors, and to all officers set over us, not to politicians
