I'm currently attending H.S, and we have to get at least 40 service learning hours, in other words, volunteering. I got my hours, but now i have to develop a 1 to 2 page essay around 3 words that would best describe my volunteering experience.

Can someone please help me pick 3, good & meaningful words and how would i be able to build on those 3 words, what could i talk about?

Additionally, if this helps, i would just like to add that i volunteered at the anti-cruelty society and i found it to be very fun. i love working with animals and it was a great experience.

All help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Start writing about the experience. Then as the idea develops and the paper evolves you can read it and let the paper's expression of your thoughts and feelings pick the words. In short, you will be writing a paper about your own paper. Sounds weird, but it will work.

I led several volunteer programs, and my organization has incorporated a service-learning component into many of our volunteer projects through several of the organizations that we service.

The idea behind service learning is to incorporate community issues and service into your classwork. By reflecting upon the work you have done, you learn more about the issues, ways to help, and eventually teach others about what they can do as well.

For example, in the volunteer projects I work on, we incorporate a reflective aspect at the end of the project on what we did, what the impact was upon the community, who we served, and what we can do in the future to improve. One of the things we do at the food bank would be to tell the volunteers how many people will be fed, the population served, and where and when the food will be distributed.

So, what you really are looking for is the application of how the work you have performed in the community provided the impact to the population. In this case, it sounds like you worked with animals. The words you choose should relate back to the issue. For example, animal adoption, animal support, cruelty, healing, etc.

Good luck with your paper!

Surely service learning means learning about something that provides a service. Why not use words such as informative, eye-opening, revealing, enlightening, productive, enjoyable, worthwhile, or any other words that describe your positive experience.
