Politically? It's doubtful. Mob psychology would not have allowed anyone to thwart the execution plot that had been in progress for months. Joseph was only a simple carpenter. Not a lot of power and influence there, you know.

Even if he had possessed the power to save Jesus, Jesus would not have allowed it. Jesus understood that His death was necessary to save us all, and that it would only be temporary. God's plans can't be changed unless God chooses to change them. It was in the plan for Christ to be crucified. No power on earth could've stopped it.

No.

Jesus went willingly and had at His disposal,12 legions of Angels at His becon call. Thank God,that he chose to complete His mission,as He stood between God and man, taking the full fury of God's righteous wrath on Himself.

He could have saved Himself but rather chose to save us.

No. Jesus' death on the cross was prophesied thousands of years before He ever was born. Without the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and His resurrection, we would all still be dead in our sins.

I don't think so but, you know he would have tried and I think Jesus felt sorry for him and maybe that's why he took him before this all went down. (I sound like law and order now huh, went down geesh!)
