Bullets are measured in two different systems

One is in mm the other is in inches(also called Calibur).

It has everything to do with where the original weapon was developed. Calibur weapons were developed in the US and Britain. Weapons using mm ammo were from mainland europe.

The "22" ammo is actually 0.22 inches in thickness, which is about 2/3rds as wide as a 9mm bullet. (9mm = aproximately 0.35 inches)

You're using 2 different methods of measuring. The 22 if I recommber right refers to .22 inches where the 9mm means just that 9 millimeters

you are comparing two different types of bullet diameter measurment. The .22 is 22/100's of an inch while the 9mm is being measured in millimeters. For instance, an M-16 fires a 5.56mm or .223 projectile. A .308, in mm, is a 7.62.

Bullets ARE measured in millimeters by European standard. A .22 caliber bullet would be 5.5mm in millimeters. The 5.56x45 is a .223 caliber. A .22 would NOT be larger than a .9mm (in this case wider). To convert millimeters to American calibration multiply by 4; a .9mm becomes a .36 caliber; a .10mm becomes a .40 caliber (in the case of the .40 S&W, a .10mm short). To convert American calibration to millimeters divide by 4, hence the .22 becomes a 5.5mm.

Your premise isn't completely true. Most 22 bullets are .224", or 5.7 mm, in diameter, and a 9mm bullet is .355" or 9.03 mm, give or take. Note that some calibers are expressed as bore size, some as bullet diameter/groove size, and some are purposely named a little off the true measurements to avoid confusion with previously existing cartridges.

American bullets are measured in tenths of an inch. Foreign bullets in millimeters. A .22 (.22 inch) long rifle bullet measures in metric at 5.56mm, .30 cal. (.30 inch) is 7.62mm, .308=7.62X51 and 7.62 NATO, .30'06 is 7.62X63mm.

When you say caliber, it's .22 of an inch, .45 of an inch and so on. When you say MM then it's a measurement

No, a 9mm is .355" ,and a .22" is 5.56mm. You are confusing different standards of measurement.
