My wife and I are going to the Music Box Theatre on W. 45th St. near Broadway this summer to see a show. I've not been to The City in YEARS! Can anyone recommend a hotel that's not going to break the bank that has good access to this area? I looked up hotels close to the theater and they're $300 - $400 a night, a bit out of our price range!!!

Help would be much appreciated! If you want to include other sights to see or restaurant recommendations, all the better! THANKS!!!

The Belvedere in Times Square - extremely clean, very friendly staff and every room has a microwave, fridge and microwave. Rooms start at $160 - you may be able to negotiate a better price at PriceLine or Orbitz. The train and bus are on the corner and there are theatres on the same block.

A hotel, which is close to, but not in Times Square (it's a lovely residential area) is the Murray Hill Suites on East 39th Street (the main street in Times Square is West 42nd Street). Every room is a suite, has private showers, kitchen area with microwave, fridge, dishwasher, coffeemaker - you'll save money if you make your own breakfast and bring back your restaurant leftovers - and very reasonable rates. Read what other guests have to say - see if they will stay there again, and look at the photos they took (do the same for any hotel that you are considering).

Le Madeleine on the corner of 43rd and Ninth serves a good three course prix fixe dinner for $32.- Even better value - 3 course dinner after 8pm - $24 - There is usually a guitarist who takes requests. There is seating in a nice enclosed indoor garden.

A huge, impressive all-you-can eat Japanese/sushi buffet with made to order sushi and custom made stir fries, and tables and tables of very fresh food is Todai on East 32nd and Madison

If you like Spanish food (from Spain, not Mexico - it's an entirely different cuisine), Costa del Sol on 50th Street and Ninth Avenue is wonderful - for $25, you get a complete dinner with a ton of choices - AND IT's GOOD! You get a choice of soup or salad - (I never order salad when there's another choice, so I can't comment). My favorite soup is the Caldo Gallego - from Galecia Spain - a delicious hearty soup with bacon, chorizo sausage, white beans, kale and other vegetables; you can also order the cold gazpacho or a chicken soup with noodles. You have a choice of more than twenty entrees - at least six different shrimp dishes - my favorites are the very lightly floured shrimp with wine sauce and the garlic shrimp - HUGE portions. You can also order salmon, paella, a whole lobster with butter sauce, various chicken dishes, mixed seafoods, veal., pork chops. These come with saffron rice and string beans - large platters on the table for everyone. You also get dessert and coffee - the cheesecake is good, but you can have flan or rice pudding or icecream. As if all this food weren't enough of a bargain, if two of you order this three course dinner, you can get a bottle of red or white wine for only $6 more ($3 each)

Have a great time!

did you try www.nycvisit.com? You can select district (area) and go by number of stars. I like the Novotel right there near Times Square and it's less expensive than others. I don't know when you are going.

Did you try the Belvedere or the Travel Inn? I think they are good options on a budget, clean, friendly.

Also..think about staying in the financial district, as they are less busy on weekends and so offer better deals than Times Sq Area hotels....

I have been to New York plenty of times and the best hotel that I have been to was the Millennium Broadway Hotel. The hotel overall was great and was pretty much right on Times Square and most of the Broadway shows. If you want more savings, then you can to priceline.com and save even more by naming your own price.

We stayed in a brand new La Quinta in Queens right across from the subway. We were able to jump on the subway and get to Manhatten in about ten minutes. It was very clean, comfortable and roomy. We liked it very much. We went to the Broadway show "Phantom of the Opera". We were on our honeymoon and had a fantastic time in NYC. The cost of the room was around $89.00 a night. Because of the reasonable rates we were able to stay in NYC for eight nights!
