Ok..this is confusing! My fiance and I have been together for 9 years. We are finally getting married. We had it all planned out to go out of town and have a small wedding with our families there. We thought it would also be a mini vacation for all of us, as well. I have a huge very close wedding, he has a much smaller family than I. His dad has diabetes and had a problem to where he wouldn't be able to travel. We really wanted to get married on St. Patricks Day (that's when we met). So..now a week away and we have no clue what to do. we had to cancel plans and just have to get a judge to marry us. The question is what to do afterwards. Should we just go out to eat afterwards or have a little party at my aunts house where we buy steaks and lobster on the grill. We just don't want it cheesy. Our time is running out and we are so confused. What would be better a little party like thing or just go out to eat?

This may sound a bit cliche but do what makes you both happy and provides the least amount of stress. Don't be rushed into anything you might regret later. If you'e feeling pressured, hold off for a while until you can plan better.

A wedding get together for any reason is not tacky. If you choose to share that moment in the privacy of a relatives house or at a restaurant- the only real thing that would matter is the love you two share- all of your guests who come will be there to support you.

me personally- i really love family get together so a BBQ would suit us fine. If you want to make it formal you can still do that and serve wines and what not (have a wine tasting- that usually goes over well). Lobster and Steak sounds better than what many places offer as a wedding dish so I am sure there will be no complaints. Benefit of having it at your aunts is that you can control the costs by purchasing you own food and drinks. Here is a side note though- keep a sober driver or have transportation for the local guests in case they get too intoxicated. You would feel just horrible if one of your guests drove home and got injured after your party.

congrats!

If his Dad cannot travel far, then I would have a lovely party at your Aunt's home, unless you can find a lovely restaurant that has a small reception room. At the restaurant you can cater a buffet style dinner, wine, beer and soda.
then a lovely wedding cake which they can take care of for you. Then you can rent a wheelchair for his Dad and he can be part of the ceremony. Also you can have a justice of the peace or a preacher marry you right on the premises where you intend to have the wedding party. It is a very nice touch and his Dad doesn't have to travel alot and everyone concerned will be happy.

I like the idea of having a little party at your aunts house. The steak and lobster sounds great and most importantly, it will be private with only those you have invited. Have a cake of some kind too.

Make some quick last minute calls and I bet because it is so close to the date you can get a great deal on renting out a space with food. Try some places you like to go or are special to you and just have a judge or pastor come on over and make it official.

I would have a little party. Go to Michaels and get some wedding decorations and little bubbles or whatever.
It is all about people celebrating your new family, not impressing anyone with your expensive chair bows or whatever.
I hope you have a great time! I'll toast to you on the 17th! :o)

I would go with going out to eat afterwards. there is nothing cheesy about it. You can all have a great time...and dont have a mess to clean up afterwards.

It would be fine to do it at home.
