I think that if the Lord arranged for some of his Prophets to get a chariot ride to Heaven he would have probably had something like this in mind for Joseph too. I don't think he would have made Joseph do the Hell thing. I mean after all he provided Mary with an Immaculate Conception I think he would certainly take care of Joseph. But then again Joseph would not want anything above what Jesus would have had. Joseph was very much aware of who Jesus was I think.

If you found the verse that says that Joseph died (before Jesus) then it probably would also describe how Mary and Jesus felt.

Neither the Bible nor history tell when, how or where Joseph died. Because he makes no appearances in the Bible during or after Jesus' ministry, it is often assumed that he had died before that. But the Bible does not say. Nor does it tell us how (or when) Mary and Jesus dealt with his death.
