It can take up to a year, but if one of the parents (or grandparents) is shorthaired your dog's hair may never get very long.

It can take up to two years, depending on the dog. I have had 4 longhair doxies, on the first - his hair was never really long except around his ears. The 2nd had hair a little longer but still not long and flowing - the other two just turned three and their hair only extends about 2 inches below their stomachs. All were from different parents.

They are the most beautiful dogs...smart, brave and totally loyal. They will love you to bits...you are one lucky owner. Yes, the long hair takes a while to come in, (It did with all of mine over the years I have had 5 long-haired miniature) If it is a real/purebred long haired and you saw the parents or have proof of their pedigree, be patient. It's like with people, some of them have hair that grows an inch a year, others a foot.
Most of all enjoy the little one...like kids, they grow up too fast, take lots of pictures.

I have 2 long haired mini-doxies and it took them both approximately 2 years to grow a full coat. I remember thinking they would never grow! I am not sure how long it would take the hair to get floor length b/c I always cut the my girls' hair before it gets that long. Long haired doxies are a lot of work. Make sure to brush regularly and do trims to keep them from getting matted fur. In my experience, matted fur is really bad on their ears.

Downtown in my city familiar without fail guy walks his 2 mini long haired dachshunds. No offense yet why do you care what human beings think of of you. Get regardless of canines you like. besides do no longer you already know chicks dig adult males with "wonderful" canines? *rolls eyes* All I care approximately while a guy has a canines is, is the canines knowledgeable, and is it nicely dealt with - groomed, fed appropriate, no longer obese and not underweight, no longer what breed it particularly is.

Actually I was told by my breeder (who has been breeding miniature longhaired and smooth doxies for 45 years) that it could take up to two to two and a half years for the coat to completely come in and that the colder it is the faster and longer it will come in. My longhair doxie is nine months and her coat is not even close to be done coming in.
