Depends on the cops, if they actually catch them, etc. We had some drunk a hole total our car and we never got anything from that piece of @$#( because his stepdaddy was a lawyer who knew the judge.

That depends on how much is known by the investigating agency, what the caseload is, and whether they CAN get a hold of him or her.

My state has up to a year to prosecute for misdemeanor hit-and-run, so we don't have to be in a rush to make contact. Ideally you want to make contact as soon as possible in order to get photos of the suspect vehicle, statements, etc. In reality, it may have to wait a few days depending on the work load of the investigating officer. I've had to go more than four weeks on some of my local cases ... this is not typically the crime of the century.

There is no canned answer to your question. All you Can do is attempt contact with the investigating officer every few days and ask about the status of the case.

Most hit and run drivers are not ever found, since normally unless you have the car license number, they have no way of finding it.

With it, they can locate and contact them normally within a few weeks, unless the driver is from out of state, in which it can take alot longer to get another department to send out someone to talk to them.

Normally ou can't count on any criminal charge, and will need to sue the car owner if you have a license number, if not, normally nothing ever happens

sorry I know you wanted to hear how great they found things, but real life is not like TV

My hubby was hit by a hit and run driver. The police got the license plate number, tracked the car, but couldn't find the drive. It's been two years.
