In Islam all over the world They agree about the oneness of God They follow the same book - Quran(same words and letters all over the world). They follow the same prophet Muhammad . offer their prayers five time a day. fast in the month of Ramadan.Give charity (Zakat) which is the poor-due on the wealth of the rich go for hajj, pilgrimage to Mecca ...but they may have differnt opinions not on the basics

Those who follow some sayings and views of Ali (one of the early muslims leaders), as the rightful successor to Prophet Muhammad , are called Shia. Shia means a partisan (party of Ali) and it started more as a political party to help Ali in his conflict with his political adversaries.

About 90% of Muslims are Sunni, the word Sunni is based on the word Sunnah which is an Arabic word means the Prophet's Doctrine. Sunnis believe in (GOD) as the One Creator and Mohammad is His last and final Messenger.

but you have to know that the sects in islam not like the sects in other religions in other religions1- they can change in their books for example the Catholic Bible contain 73 books while the Protestant Bible has only 66 in Islam no one can change any thing There is not even one word of difference between two Arabic Qur'ans, anywhere in the world. There has been no disagreements in history among Muslims as to what should and should not be in the Qur'an

The Sunnah or Hadith consists of the teachings, sayings, and actions of Prophet Muhammad. This information was meticulously reported and collected by his Companions. It is essentially an elaboration of the Qur'anic verses that shows how they are to be implemented in one's daily life ALLthe true muslims agree about that

Shiats say that the Prophet left two things for the Muslims, the Quran and his Ahl Al-Bait (family), and that the Muslims should take good care of those two.
Shiats believe that the rightful successor of the Prophet is Imam Ali (alaih salam). He is his son-in-law. Imam Ali (alaih salam) would be the first Imam and most shiats have 12 Imams. The second and third Imams would be Imam Ali (alaih salam) and Hazrat Fatima's (salam allah alaiha) sons, Imam Hasan (alaih salam) and Imam Hussein (alaih salam) respectively. The rest of the Imams are Imam Hussein's (alaih salam) son, grandson, great grandson, great great grandson, and etc. respectively.
Shiats also believe that the Prophet and his bloodline may have died physically but they are always alive.

Sunnis say that the Prophet only left the Quran behind. They even killed some of the Prophet's blood line (e.g. Imam Hussein alaih salam).

In fact when the Prophet was making his last will, telling everyone that Imam Ali (alaih salam) was his successor, Abubakr and Omar said that the Prophet is delirious!!!! The Prophet?! Delirious?! How can the great Prophet be Delirious?!

The Prophet said on the day of Ghadir Al-Khom that
"Allahomma man kont mawlah fa hath Ali mawlah (For whomever I am a Mawla of, then Ali is his Mawla),
Allahoma wali man walah wa aadi man aadah, wansor man nasarah, wakhthol man khathalah (God be with him and with those who follow him and against his opposers forever)
wa adir al hak maaho kaifama dar (May rightness be with him where ever he goes)"

After the Prophet died, while Ali (alaih salam) and the rest of the Prophet's close family were washing his body for burial, at a gathering attended by a small group of Muslims at Saqifah, the succession was given to Abubakr by vote. This did not create an immediate division, however, because Ali (alaih salam) did not fight against the elected caliphs. That is why Shiats are known for their patience and Sunnis aren't.
