beef brisket is my favorite. Its the same thing as corned beef. Just not cured. Ask the butcher for brisket and they will show you.

I like pork loin too.

Not sure on the prices but both should be under $4 a pound

Pulled BBq pork, or Pulled BBQ Beef and same for chicken.
First get about a two lb roast Pork or Beef put about a 1/2 water in the bottom of your crock pot Season your roast with salt pepper garlic powder onion powder. Place the roast into the water in your crock pot. Cut up in large chunks an onion and distribute into the pot. Cover and slow cook for about 8 hours or until when you pull on the meat it just pulls apart easily. Gently pull your meat into small shreds drain water and seasonings from the pot put shredded meat back into the crock and cover it in your favorite BBQ sauce store bought or homemade, cook for another hour and then serve on toasted large onion buns.

Your choice: beef, pork, chicken.
If you choose chicken, light or dark meat works
If you choose pork - the easiest way is by using a pork roast
If you choose beef - again the easiest way is with a roast -it doesn't have to be a great roast either.

I don't know how much meat costs in your area.

I like to use pork. Pulled pork sandwiches are great from a good Boston butt. I've had good ones from from picnic shoulders when I could not find one.

A good leftover sandwich is a grilled cheese with some pork inside. Mmm Mmm.

Pulled pork. Smoked. Start with a "Boston Butt" - Smoke with hardwood (oak, I like) until an internal temperature of 160 F, baste occasionally - recipes are everywhere on the net.

It depends where you are. Texas barbecue is usually beef brisket and Tennessee barbecue is pork. I'm not sure what Kansas City barbecue is.
