Many of the deeply religious people I know own guns for self defense. They fear a criminal might break into their house and try to kill them. If they really believe in heaven, why would they care about defending their lives? From what I have been told, your worst day in heaven is a thousand times better than your best day on earth, so why prolong your torture down here any longer than necessary?

Similarly, wouldn't you just be doing your attacker a favor by shooting them? Wouldn't that just send them to heaven early (assuming they are a believer)? I don't get it.

Because while we are down here we are to tell as many people as we can about Christ: And the longer we suffer here on earth, the more we appreciate God:

Yes it sounds weird, but it's the truth. We want to go to heaven but we also want to see everyone else go with us.

Some people believe that even though Heaven is told of being a fantastical place, we need to live out our entire lives here on Earth first. So, when certain people know that they have a gun in their house they might feel safe, knowing that they have a way of defending themselves against anyone who means them harm.

Self defense is not always about us, its about our families and others as well. Perhaps, in situations such as these, rather than turning the other cheek, one should close an eye and aim well? One could hardly make an argument that God gave some people the authority to assault, and some others the duty to be assaulted. Indeed, He gave men the gifts of conscience and intelligence, so that they may decide if an action is good or worthy. So it is very hard to justify, from a Christian point of view, any law such as out lawing guns, whose prime effect is to disarm honest people.

That really is not a fact. To say, "Why do Christians own guns?" is like saying the majority does, when really if you looked at the whole world a lot of people do in general.

I am a Christian and I don't own a gun, and I also have a ton of Christian friends who don't own guns. Really, you think ALL Christians are that afraid and defenseless?

Rural Nebraska, I've grown up with guns in the house. Safely locked in a cabinet when not in use. My Father is a retired sheriff and several family members are hunters. Each member of my family, including my children have taking gun safety courses even though I don't keep guns in my house.

We have the right to defend our country from invaders. The U.S. Constitution grants us the right to bear arms to protectourselves if the government goes bad. And if someone knows that there is a loaded weapon in the house do you honestly think that there would be a break in?

I can tell you why I own guns.

They belonged to my late husband. We used to go to the gun range together. I am a good shot and enjoy shooting. I have handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

I also live near several prisons. Breakouts are not unknown. Several prison guards live near me and suggested that I make sure to have one within my home - to be on the safe side.

There is also the point that I live in the country and there are wild animals that are not friendly. Not having a gun is foolish in such conditions.

Scripture tells us to turn the other cheek - not tie our hands behind our backs. Nothing within scripture suggests that one can not protect themselves.

I understand that we Christians say to die is to gain. That is to say we aren't scared to die for persecution or any such thing. But it is also the job of a family man to defend and guard his home. My Dad owns three shotguns and a rifle. It's not totally for defense purposes he hunts but if sumone broke into our house he would defend our family.

Are you serious? No one wants someone to break into their home and rob them and maybe kill their children, that is ridiculous thinking. Life is a gift and all people want to live. Is there something wrong with you, boy?

Really, I don't see any problem in owning a gun for self-defence,and what one believes in they should not have to die because of it.That is really a savage way of thinking.maybe people like that need a lot of prayer rather then a gun.
