The reason the tattoo goo stick is good is because it is a stick and easy to carry around with you to use more frequently and it has an SPF 30 in it.

You are gonna wreck your tattoo and your skin in the tanning bed no matter what you use. I would cover it as well....many people cut out little pieces of peel back things like labels or even contact paper and stick them over their tattoo when they booth tan. I am not sure how good that actually protects but clients tell us that is what they do.

I'm pretty sure it's the UV rays that make you tan, but they also break down the pigments of your tattoo's color. I'd put really strong sunblock on and cover it with a piece of paper or a piece of clothing or something. Of course, I'd recommend not tanning at all, but you didn't ask about that...

sunscreen protects your skin from the uv rays but it does not protect your ink. the ink is still going to be broken down over time. you need to keep your tattoo out of all uv light as much as possible. if not your tattoo will fade over time. but you should stay out of the tanning bed anyway, it is really really bad for your skin and you may regret it when you are 30 and your skin looks like the old gross wrinkly lady from "there's something about mary"
