You need that specialized dog ickiness cleaner. It has special detergents in it so the dog can't smell it anymore.
The thing with dogs is they have a very strong sence of smell so even after you clean it with regular detergent, they can still smell it and they will pee on the same spot continuously if the dog pees there once and it's not cleaned up with that special solution. They like the smell of ickiness and they like to roll around in it to throw off their scent to other animals. Your pup is probably licking it because he/she probably smells the food inside the barf and is trying to eat it. (dogs are naturally gross)
Why she/he barks at the spot-I haven't a clue. Maybe she/he is picking up signals from you towards that spot in the carpet and is responding with you to it. I dunno.
Goofy dog.
Get that special dog mess carpet cleaner from a pet store and it should take out the smell.

They are smelling the vomit! It's still in the carpet. They are rubbing their coats on the area to try to mask the smell. I know it's gross but dogs do gross things sometimes.
You need to really clean the carpet very well. Get some Natures Miracle from the pet store. It works wonders.

Dogs will eat grass and carpet to force themselves to throw up if they've eaten something that upsets their stomach. You have to use a neutralizing cleanser to eliminate the odor or else your dogs will continue to irritate that spot on your carpet. dogs are weird...but ya gotta love em.

Buy an enzyme neutralizer...it works wonders! Petsmart and Petco have one called Simple Solution and its amazing! It even works on stains that arent pet related. But it breaks down enzymes then the dogs dont smell it anymore. We used this when potty training our puppy. Since it eliminated the urine smell anytime we used it he got the hint pretty quick that going potty inside wasnt normal (cause he couldnt smell any pee).

Because dogs can smell far better than we can, and the spot wasn't cleaned up properly. They all still smell it and are going to keep reminding you to clean it until you get it cleaned up.

Get a neutralizing enzyme cleaner (they make them especially for pet accidents). They still smell the vomit and are trying to cover the smell (like others have suggested).

Clean it better...use a mix of vinegar and water. Dogs hate that smell.
