I worked in the bridal industry for about 5 years, and my best suggestion to you is DON"T WEAR WHITE!! The bride is the only one who is allowed to wear white that day! Don't wear a color that will match or be too close in color to the bridesmaid dresses. Also, think about the formalness of the wedding and the type of people that the bride and groom are. If the wedding is at 8:00 in the evening, the invitation says "formal" and the reception is at a fancy venue, dress up! If the wedding is in the afternoon and you know that the wedding is a bit more casual, feel free to dress it down a bit. I would try to avoid anything that is distractingly bright in color or print, but you still need to have fun and show your personality.

Stay away from colours that dont go together something that is bright lime green or bright hot pink, anything that is basicly blinding to others dont wear.
Stay away from wearing white seeing as its for the bride
And dont wear anything that is eight inches above the knee, its a bit too short and giving out the wrong idea as well as somthing that is showing too much of the upper half as well.

You can always get a way with a little black dress having it on the knee or just above it nice.
If the wedding is in the spring or summer have lighter colours such as light pink, purple, red, or blue. If its in the winter or fall than go for darker colours such as brown, dark red and blue.
But black will go perfect anytime, Just add some sparkle with a necklace and some earings to dress it up more for the occassion.

No white or ivory (brides dress in ivory too). Black is socially acceptable now, but I don't like the idea of wearing black to a wedding. Dress for the season and the formality of the wedding. There really aren't any colors that are 'forbidden' to wear at a wedding.

The only person who should be wearing white or a likeness of white should be the bride. Most people understand this rule, and generally if someone wants to wear a white color they usually ask the bride out of common courtesy. If your guests are coming to you asking what colors to wear, you can help guide them if you like, but try and not get too picky with them. Usually people will wear what they want unless you are going with a dress theme that will include not only the wedding party but guests as well, such as a hawaiian theme where men wear hawaiin prints shirts, and women wear hawaiian print type dresses. Aside from that, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wedding guests should never wear red. It is a bold color which can draw attention away from the bride.
White is considered acceptable now as long as the dress doesn't appear to be a wedding gown (so the guest cannot be confused as the bride) and black is very appropriate for formal evening weddings.

Do not wear white!!!! That is the brides color and is extremely tacky to wear white on her day.

Traditionally, people have thought wearing black was also a bad sign for the couple. Some people might still be superstitious, but it has become more widely accepted in recent years. I guess you just have to know the couple.

All other colors -- Go for it!

don't wear white unless you're the bride.
don't wear black unless it's really formal and in the evening or it's a funeral.
don't wear anything too sexy or too bright - the attention should be on the couple not you.
trying to wear the colors of the wedding is nice.
other than that have fun and pick your favorite color to wear.

I would not wear white, black, orange, lime green, and you know the bright colors that stick out. I would consider wearing a color that is close to their wedding colors. Example if they are having navy blue i would wear a shade of blue.

You shouldn't wear white because that takes away from the bride. You shouldn't wear red because you'll look like a street walker. If it's an evening wedding and formal you can wear black.

1) Do not upstage the bride with something loud (e.g., red).

Personally, I would wear black (the standard color of mourning and offer a lovely sympathy card to whichever one is your friend). But chances are you won't assent to that, so see #1 again.

Actually, any of today's trendy colors are ok. The "muddy" greens/browns/blues look great together. Shades of purple are regaining popularity; historically, purple is indicative of wealth as the dyes/colorants necessary to achieve were very expensive.
