I've started going to a church recently, and I knew that they taught about the Bible and Jesus and morals. I thought it would be nice to hang around people who don't use profanity and who strive to be more moral.

But these people actually believe the stories of the Bible, and they believed all kinds of things about God, as if they could really know! It scared the bejezus out of me!!!

I left that church and went to a more traditional one, and they ALSO BELIEVED those stories were literal!!! I did some research on the web and found out that MOST CHRISTIANS ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS STUFF!!!

How is this conceivable? I've read the Bible a couple of times and never ONCE did it occur to me to actually believe that stuff! No more than any other book of moral tales!

Is the World really this insane? Somebody please explain all this to me! I feel like I'm in a world of insane people - the Twilight Zone!!!

Yes, a lot of the holy rollers believe in those stories.

Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do (my poor attempt at the twilight zone theme)

I also had a hard time swallowing some of the stories I read in the Old Testament at first. But you know what? They're a LOT more conceivable to me than to believe in evolution (I do believe in adaption), that we just so "happened" to form from microscopic organisms, etc.

And yes, I went to public school and was taught that these things are considered "fact" by our scientific community. There's not even solid evidence for these beliefs! Just circumstantial assumptions...

That seems a lot more "miraculous"/far fetched than an angel proctecting the three men from the fiery furnace or Jesus walking on water.

I don't see how you consider Christians insane... we simply choose to put our trust in a book we believe was written by inspiration of a God we've personally seen manifested in our own lives. If I didn't have solid reasons to believe, I'd be a skeptic too.

I think you should give those churches a second chance and be more open-minded. What if the crazy Christians are right? I don't normally pull scripture out, but this fits so perfectly... here's what the Bible says:

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

You think we're crazy, but the Bible says the world's "wisdom" is really foolishness. Just think about it.

The problem is that you view the Bible only as a moral guide. But if the Bible isn't true, then why bother? Use Aesop's Fables instead!

Do you believe that George Washington was the first President under the US Constitution? Where does the information about him come from?

Just as eyewitnesses recorded George Washington's Presidency, so too the apostles and 500 other eyewitnesses saw Jesus Christ risen from the dead.

If you are intellectually honest, you will use the same scrutiny on history as the Bible. If you use any other criteria for evaluating the Bible that you do not use for any other historical document, then you are intellectually dishonest.

Well, some believe everything literally, some only believe some of the stories, like that of Moses and the Jesus story.

I would venture to say that most run of the mill Christians really do not even try to rationalize these stories. They just accept what they have been taught as children and never really question it.

That is the way I see it. Lets take this crazy stuff:

John
6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Now is this to be taken literally or figuratively?
Even if figuratively, what is the point of that? Are we cannibals for Christ?

It boggles the mind how Christians rationalize their faith.

Christianity has been around for a couple thousand years and you are telling us that all these people are nuts, but you are fine? That everyone Else's experience is null and void because your mind cannot grasp God? Well, aren't we Mr High and Mighty. By the way, I happen to believe that dinosaurs existed, as they are mentioned in the Bible, several times, not the word dinosaurs, because that word did not exist then, however, they are described. And I don't think the world is only 6000 yrs old. However, it doesn't matter how old it is, God still made it and creation is more plausible then the theory of evolution.

The word Christian means follower of Jesus Christ.. When you dtudy the word follower is an adherent. Which goes into being a disciple a learner or pupil or discover of his ways! When you study the word learn or learning or taught it deals with outside gaining. Learner has it's own category for it deals with hands on to "discover". Majority of false church community which are "antheist" having a form of godlines yet denying the power thereof are just observers... Just along for the ride just to say they were there lol! But the stories of the bible are true if you search history other countries who were smitten have recorded the events. Just look for their lost writings and a whole world of info will pop up. Such as if you do a search on Roman Census all sorts of info pops up about Jesus and in the census was written in the word of God lol! Just one example but search the scriptures for yourself go to www.onlinebible.com http://pureword.21.forumer.com

I don't know. Do you believes stories in the history books are real.

The stuff I read from the diary of the Chief Medical Officer for Washington about Valley Forge differs radical with the nice pretty picture I was taught in High School.

Remember how they taught us a law was passed. No mention of PACS, Lobbiest, Back Burnering legistlations, death in committee, arm twisting for votes.

The Roman Catholic Church is a fairly large denomination, and it is the position of the church as voiced by Pope John Paul II that the Bible is not to be taken as a literal description of scientific reality, but as an illustration of the correct relationship between man and God.

The Roman Catholic is also a fairly conservative denomination, so I think you would find that most Christians would tend to take this view of the Bible.

The Bible should not be believed in part or in whole.
Written by backward people in a backward land.

Pure fairy tales many not suitable for children to read. A terrible waste of ink and paper.

Yes, I believe the stories in the Bible are real and true. I believe them by faith. Church is founded on the basic beliefs of the Bible. The Bible states that man was created by a loving God. The Bible states that man fell due to Eve and Adam eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Sin entered into the world. God loved the world so much that he sent his only begotten Son to become a sacrifice to atone for the sins of men. The Bible states that if we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved. Believing on Him means that we believe that his blood is the payment that God the Father requires for our sin. We did not have to pay for our own sin. We deserve to die eternally (spiritual death) because of Adam's sin which was passed down to all men. BUT GOD, WHO CREATED US AND LOVED US, did not leave us in a state of spiritual death, without a way to live eternally with Him. So since sin cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven, God sent Jesus to die for us, so that if we believe in Him, and his death on the cross as the payment that God requires, then just by believing, our sins are forgiven and we are given eternal life! It's very simple and it's a free gift. Just go to the Lord and admit, agree with God that you are a sinner and ask Christ to save you from your sins. Ask him into your life and to give you eternal life. Then start reading the Bible. When you ask Christ into your life you receive the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit reveals to you that the Bible is true and the Holy Spirit witnesses to you and teaches you the things of God. Yes it is real, I have experienced it. If I had experienced how to stay young forever or to become very wealthy and told you, you would try it, just to see if it was true. I have experienced it and have a personal relationship with God. The Bible is real. There is an afterlife. If you were to die tonight, where would you spend your eternity? It's true and I am a witness of it. I am encouraging you to try it and find out for yourself. You have a soul that will live on forever, the decision is yours where you are going to spend your eternity. There is a lot at stake, it's the most important decision you will ever make in your entire life. The Bible is 66 different books written by different men. For thousands of years men have been trying to discredit it, but they cannot, it was written by men inspired by God. It is truth! Jesus Christ is real and alive and seated in heaven and waiting for you to call on His name!

Actually there are only " 2 " options here. believe it, or not. There is no in between. If you chose not to believe, then you need to understand what that really means. Once you really understand what you believe, it might make you ill.
