I guarantee that whoever is in bootcamp will be MORE than happy to receive a letter, no matter how many pushups they may have to do.
Everyone is doing pushups in boot, don't ever hesitate to write a letter to someone because of such a silly thing. Your kind words, and saying what is going on in the loves of their loved ones will more than make up for a few lousy pushups.

No push-ups for letters.... unless the DI's looking for something to make him do push-ups for... then maybe. But for a letter from home? I doubt there's a recruit or Marine alive who'd tell you it wasn't worth it, 100%
Check out this website for GREAT information about the USMC.. it's THE place to go... and it's for parents, siblings, spouses, family member, friends... whoever... They have recruit message boards and Marine message boards... Join in, you'll learn a LOT.. and it'll get you through the first few weeks of boot!

If they aren't doing pushups for every letter they receive, they'll be doing pushups for some other made-up reason.
I wrote my then-boyfriend every day while he was in Marine boot camp. All I heard about was how much he appreciated my letters. I never heard a word about pushups.
Just don't send food, especially in large quantities. I did hear about some mom who sent cookies for the whole platoon. The DI made that poor unfortunate recruit eat all of those cookies in one sitting, then go out and run a few miles.

They always tell me that the push ups are worth it. They would rather have the letters every single day. I promise you never want to be the one that doesn't get any or only one or two letters. The best thing to do is only write them on white paper or notebook paper. The envelopes must only be white. Never send food, snacks or extras. I know a guy who got a birthday card from his Grandma in a purple envelope. It was not a fun birthday for him.

It's been almost 20 years since boot camp but letters were great. Try to refrain from sending food, though, unless it is small packages. DI's will make recruits eat all of what you send at once because you can't keep food in the barracks.
I got 4 dozen cookies once...

Writing letters to a recruit in bootcamp is an excellent idea. In general, be upbeat and suportive of their decision to join the Corps. However, NEVER SEND THEM CARE PACKAGES!!!! NO COOKIES, SWEETS OF ANY KIND!!!!!

I sent my son some of his pictures of rock fest, (some of which vaguely made the impression of topless women) he got an unscheduled call home to thank me. He never mentioned push-ups for a letter.

Sometimes you could get quarterdecked if the D.I. doesn't like something about the letter(state or name)
True story...The D.I. said anyone who get's there girlfriend to send nude photo's will get a call home...if she was hot.(if she was ugly they would haze you).So get a hot chick and have her send nude photos...it may help.
