I have a dog called a Coton De Tuler. She weighs about 7 lbs so she is a lap dog. She does bark, but this may be due to the fact that as a puppy she wasn't around people very often. If you end up getting a dog, you should take it to the park to meet other people often. Have any ?'s email me at olivia13pilgrim@gmail.com!

Definitely get a pug! I just got a pug puppy and it is great. They dont bark a lot, maybe a little while its playing, but pugs arent known for their barking. I also have chihuahua, dont get one of these, they are very yappy dogs and they tend to attach to one person then be a brat to everyone else.

I'm sure your lab would love to be your lap dog! haha. I'm afraid that LOTS of small dogs bark a lot. I would try for a young adult mixed breed, from petfinders.com or a shelter, because then you can see what you're getting in terms of size, hair length, barkiness (to some extent), and whether he and your lab will get along. And whether it's known to be cat-safe.
A good way to see lots of dogs is to volunteer at the animal shelter-- that way when one comes in that fits your needs, you'll be right there to grab him! Good luck!

My pug did not bark a lot at all-- but he was a naughty little guy-- very loving and loyal though-- At one time a close friend had a peke and they are adorable, but have tons of hair. Both dogs have smooshed noses, so they both snore. It really just depends, but based on what you are looking for-- I would say pug.

Shih-tzu's rarely bark. My mom has one, and I just got one and neither one bark. I needed a dog that didn't shed and didn't bark, and this one is perfect. A lot of little dogs (i.e- Chihuahua, rat terriers, yorkies) tend to bark a LOT, so I wouldn't recommend one of those.

Pugs are so cool. I don't recall my sisters barking allot, but personality plus....him and my German Shepard got along great, but he definitely thought, or should I say acted like, he was "The King".
