One of my dogs, I taught to lick her lips on command when I said "Yummy."
I taught her that by putting a little peanut butter on her muzzle so when she was rapidly licking it off, I would say "Yummy" and give her an additional treat. Pretty soon she learned that licking her lips meant a treat!
Also I taught her to stop a soccer ball with her paw if you rolled the ball to her.
My other dog would scratch and hop on command.
You know how a dog can scratch the ground with his front paws and back paws? So, yeah, I trained him to do that on command.
Then for the hopping... I don't even remember how that started... I think he thought of that trick on his own in conjunction with the scratching. It was sooooooo cute!!! I would just say "hop" and he would hop forward.
I actually wanted to teach him to hop several times in a row like a rabbit, but my mom said that would be too stressful on an old dog.
So, yes, I taught my little senior shelter dog a lot of tricks! His least favorite trick was "roll over;" he didn't like that one at all, but he could do it. His favorites were the hop and scratch. So you definitely can teach an old dog.....

Not a trick but something funny and strange for a dog.
My Italian Greyhound will run thru the house and jump to the middle of the kitchen table, grab whatever toy we are keeping from her and keep running!
I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, Our cat jumping on the table is believable, but the dog. LOL!

I got a golden retriever bout 14 months ago and the lady that gave her to me said "this dog can talk" and I thought "yeah, right". But Mattie actually can talk and say several phrases-before I can get up in the morns. and go to the bathroom she's calling "come on, come on" and she can say "I want out" and "I love you. She will pee on command and poop on command. She is the boss and has her own strong personality -lol--has brought me so much comfort and joy.

I feed my dog in his crate with the door open and when he is done eating he will carry his bowl to the kitchen and hold it until I take it from him. He will also put his toys back in his toy box. He is a Miniature Bull terrier. He also knows roll over, sit pretty, speak, spin left or right.

Hi! As a matter of fact our pup does tricks by herself when you hold up a treat for her. She has a repertoire of tricks she does for each treat you hold up. She's pretty smart and she's what our vet calls a verfy valuable mutt of many breeds. They]re much healthier than a pure bred. We love her so much that we spent money and much time making her well from parvo. She's worth a lot to us!

We taught our black lab to say "yes" by barking and "please" by barking without making a sound .It's so neat. Our chihuahua can give a "high five " instead of the normal "shake" or "give paw".They both learned to smile when happy too.
