I am not a big fan of religion in general. To be fair, Christianity does have a history of doing bad things.

CURRENTLY though, I think the worst religion in the world is Islam.

What other religion teaches that blowing yourself up and killling CIVILIANS (not soldiers, but untrained, unarmed civilians) will be REWARDED by God?

Name one other religion that CURRENTLY teaches that. Don't mention the crusades, because I've already mentioned that Christianity has bad sides too and I'm talking about stuff in the present day.

I know that most people in Islam aren't bad, but if you just look at that you're missing the point.

If everyone in the middle east were suddenly turn atheist, then you do honestly think that they would intentionally kill themselves in a suicide bombing?

Religion in general can be a bad thing and I believe most people in the middle east are good people, but religion corrupts them.

Do you agree?

Muslims are NOT bad people.

I'm talking about the religion, not the people.

Muslims are good, but religion can corrupt them.

Just look at how Islam treats women and homosexuals when it comes to women's rights.

Homosexuals in some Muslim countries are executed for being gay.

How can you say executing homosexuals is a bad thing? This is motivated by religion.

I meant to type "NOT a bad thing" when I was talking about executing homosexuals.

No, killing people is wrong. Plenty of non-Islamic people kill other people.

Islam is not a bad religion. They just get bad press by the American media. Watching Canadian news will give you a different perspective on things.

"I know that most people in Islam aren't bad, but if you just look at that you're missing the point. "

I don't see how this is missing the point. Religions are made up of its followers, if the followers are good people, then the religion should be a good one too.

I think the best way to answer a question like that, is to first ask which Islam are you talking about? As much as people may wish to believe the opposite, there are many different Islams out there. Obviously the Sunni & Shia are two divisions that come to mind, but you would be wrong to stop there. Islam is divided further. There are the Devi - who are more "spiritual" in the sense that they have rituals (whirling dirvish) that help them connect experientially. There are the Wahabbi - from Saudi Arabia, who follow a very strict code compared to other versions of Islam. Then, there is Islam in America, which has very different roots & history from that in the Middle East.

And then you get to national influences and regional influences and possibly even tribal influences. There may be different Islams based on who the "preacher" is. And even if there are absolute truths in the world (an idea which Islam supports), it is nonetheless experienced subjectively by the individual.

And the term individual is itself a misnomer, a falsehood. People can be further divided by their own history, by their moods, information, surroundings, etc.

Which then of these is evil?
Which promotes evil actions?

I don't doubt that there are people who commit evil deeds under the large umbrella of "Islam", but I think you need to drill down further into the various Islams to find the one which needs criticism & correction.

Well, I don't agree, but before I even start, I'd like to thank you for being blunt but not insulting (technically), and adding that it's just what you think and that it's not necessarily true.

First off, I'm going to adress the part about suicide bombing. I, personally (even if I AM a Muslim), don't agree with it and think it's idiotic. I believe that we should all resort to more... peaceful and preserving ways to resolve conflict (yes, I'm a pacifist). However, I suppose suicide bombing could be explained by some form of jihad, which is defending yourself against attackers. I believe every religion claims martyrs will go to Heaven or be rewarded by God in some form?

Also, take into consideration that, even IF everyone in the Middle East turned atheist, there would STILL be suicide bombers - if there was an issue they believed strongly enough in.

Second off, I myself am frustrated by the lack of women's rights in Islam. However, that may just be my modern feminism speaking. Prophet Muhammad himself did much to liberate women and uplift their status in ancient Meccan times. Although he might seem a bit wimpy compared to modern standards, he did much to free women. Did you know that, before, it was common practice in Mecca to murder baby daughters in order to avoid bringing shame to the family, and that women were little more than chattels and baby-factories? They had absolutely no right to their inheritance and property (even though there were some powerful females, like Prophet Muhammad's wife Khadija).

However, Prophet Muhammad guaranteed that women had a right to their inheritance, that they would not be abused, and that they would be able to much more than the common woman in Mecca in those days.

Third off, the address the issue on homosexuals. Yes, it's probably unfair that they were (and are) condemned for something they had no control over, and it's an aspect of Islam I disagree with. However, I have yet to come across a verse in the Qur'an actively condemning homosexuals, and personally, although Hadiths (recommendations by Companions for living life as a good Muslim would) are excellent guidelines, a good number have proved to be fake or invalid. So, if there IS a Hadith claiming that homosexuals should be damned, I would have a hard time agreeing.

Also, don't many religions in the world condemn gays and homosexuals? It's unfair - I believe - for Islam in particular to be singled out for this fault.

So, I've got to say I disagree. I hope I have provided ample reason enough for my views and that I haven't offended anybody.

One of the many short comings which has arisen in the West, is judging Islam by the conduct of a minority of its people. By doing this, segments of Western society have deliberately played off the desperate actions of many Muslims, and have given it the name of Islam. Such behaviour is clearly not objective and seeks to distort the reality of Islam. For if such a thing was done Judge a religion by the conduct of its people) then we too could say that all Christianity is about is child molesting and homosexuality By using the many cases of child abuse and homosexuality by priests, Such a generalisation about Christianity could be made

Hi! Ok I am a muslim! No,they are great people!

And islam teaches the opposite!

Never kill or youwill go to hell!

Islam is not a religion of peace, everyone knows that, but do not hate them. Love them. Be alert and aware, never let them harm you or convert you. Just love them as human. If they break any law of the land thrash them hard but don't hate any religion.

Islam is a bad religion, and anyone that truly believes in Islam can justify any type of killing. There are dozens of photos of Saddam Hussein kissing the Koran. Saddam slaughtered the Kurds, and he even put some of his own family members to death. Nevertheless, he believed in Islam until he was also put to death. Osama bin Laden was also a devout Muslim. There are many Muslims that still believe bin Laden was completely justified for the 9-11 terrorist attack. They believe it was the will of Allah. Most Muslims believe people that don't accept Islam deserve exactly what they get. Muslims persecute women and non-muslims in every Islamic society. Non-Muslims are forced to pay high taxes, and they are treated like second-class citizens. You say Muslims are good people. Go live in a place like Iran, and decide for yourself how good you think they are.

With all do respect, you seem to be speaking as if cable news and Islamophobic people are educating you on Islam.

Islam forbids the killings you describe, it is murder and it is wrong.

Please go visit a Mosque and study Islam open mindedly. I also wanted to add that the middle east has a lot of Christians and Jews.

The unconditonal respect that Muslims are suppose to follow will guarantee world peace.

Salaam

You must compare the Koran with the Holy Bible. You will find that Islam is totally evil and full of hatred and violence. The one aim of Islam is to finally destroy Israel and all the Jews down to the last Jewish child. Muslims are all liars, a fact that can be proved by their own book, the koran and must never be trusted. If you think this is a false statement, read of the hatred for the Jews and the infidels (thats all Australians) in their filthy book. Australia will rue the day when muslims were alowed to enter Australia.
The Holy Bible on the other hand points the way to a loving God (Jesus) and how much He loves us. He wants to give us peace and love and do no harm to anyone. Everyone has the privilige to decide who to worship and obey. Jesus declared "he who is not with me is against me". Those who fail to follow Him will be punished. Jesus is the fullness of Almighty God and will not be mocked. Allah is none other than Satan and this can be proved by reading the Holy Bible and the Koran. Jesus brings freedom from religon, Allah brings death and bondage. Do not be deceived.

Many followers of most other religions would say that. I haven't heard most other religions say the same thing about buddhism. Opinions arise for a reason.
