Casting a spell is a big responsibility. Each must be customized for every situation. They must be well thought out - doesn't mean a ton of planning or having 3 dozen color coordinated items. Just that you understand your intentions and truly believe that what you are doing is correct.

And remember that each action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Many books, websites, schools, teachers etc. claim to have simple starter spells. Don't use these. In all honesty they are not approriate.

Instead pick a couple of items and get to know them. Pick a couple of plants and decide for yourself when and if they should be used. Allow the inherent knowledge from the Divine come out.

And if you don't know what to cast a spell for - perhaps you shouldn't be doing it.

I am not a Wiccan - but I do know first and foremost Wicca is a religion. Not all who follow this practice magic. If you are just in it for a spell - then I would seriously consider what you are getting out of Wicca.

Pick up a copy of "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. It's the best book for beginners, in my opinion. I also have an ebook called "A Practical Guide to Witchcraft and Magic Spells" by Cassandra Eason which is quite a handy text for beginners.

Stay FAR away from anything by Silver Ravenwolf; many experienced Wiccans have serious problems with her ethics, for the reasons outlined in the following essay:

The same website hosting the essay has a Book Reviews section that you might find helpful.

I wish you the best of luck on your path.

Slow down in the wiccan path to life,
For time and pace sometimes leads to strife.
What proof is a spell used as a toy,
Not safe to work, when swift to employ.
Sit quiet and think of all of today,
The path your heart climbs, in a new way.

I thought a new poem for a poet new to Wicca.
Please forgive the roughness of metric usage.

Before casting your first spell, learn to "ground", "center" and "shield" very well. These are the very basics and should be second-nature before going any further. A google search on these terms with the word "Wicca" should turn up some good info.

I also recommend the book, "Before you Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman.

Swing a dead Llama around your head four times at the stroke of midnight on a Friday 13th, and all your wildest dreams will come true.

Or you could get a spell from an actual Wiccan.

Either way is sufficient.

Well, wait one year and one day, then you can do all that. Read on the initiation and it'll tell you everything you need to know from the roots and the basics.

Witches don't give other witches their spells. You make your own.

there are a number of excellent Wicca 101 books; your local bookstore or Amazon should have a good selection.

Look for authors like Scott Cunningham, Raven Silverwold or (my favorite) Starhawk (The Spiral Dance is an excellent starting book).

These are also good reference books for basic and useful spells.

Bon chance!
