The majority of maple syrup comes from the New England area...specifically Vermont. I lived in Montana for 10 years and I didn't see the first maple tree. That's not to say they don't have them, but they aren't all that common.

Hey,
You will find that maple syrup is made in the north east part of the U.S. It's also made in Canada, in Ontario, and Quebec.
If you want the fresh stuff, now is probably the best time to go buy it from a maple syrup farm. Check the internet for maple syrup festivals, they're so much fun, and you get to taste the stuff that has just been made.
hope that helps a bit.

Sabina had it right. Anywhere from northern Connecticut up through Mass., VT, NH and Maine is where you'll find the sweet Maple trees that produce the 'real' syrupy stuff. It's a tube stuck into a tree and the sap runs into a bucket. It's boiled down to what we put onto pancakes, waffles, grits and other things.

I'm not sure about Montana, but it is made in New York and in Vermont. It runs about $30-$40.00 a gallon for Grade A.

This site sells some but I don't see them claiming it's actually made in Montana.
